Hi Skeet and Welcome!
For a first time grower you're doing great, and the best part of all it seems that you have a great attitude!!!!! Even in the face of losing all those plants you're learning but more importantly adjusting and --- moving --- ahead.
All your grows, but especially your first is a big learning experience and experiment. Like in your case, all the mistakes you made this time, make for a better crop next time.
I'm at the end of my first grow, and already started my second, and I have an overcrowding problem going on myself. Not knowing and Bad timing on my part. I have 2 Northern light auto's growing. Started the same time, one sprouted a day before the first, and as been at the same pace as the first but always 2 inches shorter than the first. So both of my plants did there strech thing and buds started coming. Except the 2nd slowed way down on the buds, and all of a sudden it stretched again, now it's probably 4 inches taller that the first and it is probably 2 weeks behind in bud production.
My bad timing issue, is/was thinking that the buds would have been fully developed a week ago but in reality I probably have 2 more weeks till harvest. A newbie wishful thinking mistake.
My goal, is two fold, first is the technical end of things -- the plant, environment, and such. 2nd, I would love to be able to throw away the books at times and be able to read my plants, just by looking at them.
