Ok so I scored a smoking deal on some auto pots the other day from Goodwin store they never been used. My question is after you get them setup with the correct pH how do you check run off? Since they drink from the bottom up do you need to remove them every once in while and water/feed to runoff?

Those self watering bases are similar to the system I use. There is no run off.

No need to check the ph in the trays, just set the ph in your reservoir. Keep in mind that the ph will slowly drift up. I start at 5.9 or 6.0 and it usually drifts to 6.1-6.3 before the next refill.Comment

In Torch's Guide to auto-watering pots, he uses a wet vac with nozzle accessories that let him fit in the little port hole. That way you can vacuum the water out, if you ever need to empty the reservoir for some reason. A "long nose" syringe lets you take a sample from inside the reservoir.Comment
