    HYDRO Back in the game

    Greetings fellow growers.

I've been out of the game for 10 years due to employment conditions. Gotta love the federal gov't. I'm a seasoned
recreational grower. I have 9 grows under my belt. Best result was a Sour Diesel grow that yielded 18 oz. of cured buds. My method is indoor bubble-ponics in a 4 x 4 x 84 tent. All of my previous grows were done in a bedroom which provided a controlled environment. I now live in an area that has severe temperature swings. In addition, my first grow back is being done in a non-insulated shed where the temp swing can be as much as 40 degrees and ambient humidity is usually below 15%. Because of my current situation, controlling the environment in my tent is a challenge. I'm running a Toshiba A/C unit that I ducted to the tent. The issue with that is the unit's temp sensor is on the unit itself. Not remote. So that requires pretty constant attention. I'm also running 3 humidifiers in an effort to maintain desirable humidity.

For my first grow back I chose Northern Lights from Royal Crown seeds out of Springfield, Or. I've had success with this strain in the past. Sprouting proved difficult because of environmental conditions. This seed didn't sprout "strongly" and after transplanting, it still took a few days to emerge. I WAS using H.I.D. lighting which made temp. control extremely difficult. As a result, I have switched to LED lighting. My girl is now under a 400w Vivosun Wing-light. I chose this light for its integral dual fans, wings and adjustable spectrum. I'm counting on this newer LED technology. We'll see.

I'm a firm believer in trimming. I topped at the 5th node. Then, after establishing a strong core, I pulled down and secured all of the branches to allow light to penetrate more deeply. After 2 more weeks I began trimming of all large leaves that were not allowing the desired light penetration. And as growth progresses, I will continue to trim off the largest leaves and continue to pull the branches dow to keep the center as open as possible. I have had impressive success in the past using this method.

The pics show room prep, my set-up and growth progress. It is my intent to document this grow's progress here. I choose to use this set-up and technique because it allows me to control virtually all aspects of my grows. I do only 1 plant at a time so I can concentrate all of my efforts on this single plant.

I like your training method/technique i get great results using pretty much the same technique.
Also a nice and tidy set-up.

Welcome back to growing. Looks sweet! I'm sure that light will do you good. Growing out in the desert must be hard, especially in a shed. It'll be cool to watch your comparison from the 600w HPS to your new 400w LED.

I'm glad you left the feds and came back to the green ways.

Looking forward to your updates. It will be a big challenge maintaining the environment for sure.

Regarding the AC sensor problem, you may be able to control the AC via its power supply. Some can be controlled that way, others cannot. Just test it by unplugging it whilst it is running then plugging it back in. If it runs after plugging back in it can probably be controlled via an automated power outlet controlled via a wifi temp/humidity sensor in the tent. They are cheap.

If not, you can rip the thermostat out of the unit and stick it in the tent.

Actually I have ordered the new Vivosun climate control unit that integrates with my other Vivosun equipment. The down side is that it isn’t expected to ship until late July. Until then, I’m kinda in a rhythm. Run the A/C on manual mode full cool during the day and fan only at night. Then I regulate temperature by controlling airflow.
