    My tincture is green?

Hi again. I just did my first quick wash and it’s green. It’s supposed to be golden. Does this mean I did something wrong? I googled it but basically all that came up was chlorophyll. Thanks in advance!!

Chlorophyll is correct. How long are you washing, and at what temp? Freeing the weed and ethanol, and using a quick wash will reduce the chlorophyll uptake.

It was time to make some tincture and since there have been several threads on this subject I thought I would show my process. There will be two separate batches with different strains. The process will be the same for each, so I will show just one run. Each batch is a 30 gm load of bud. That will be decarbed, ethanol

Don't worry, be happy, grow sticky buds.

Without knowing which of the multitude of tutorials, images, videos and such you have seen, here's my little experience and research.
Another name for green dragon is QWISO. That's a quick wash with isopropyl alcohol. The key word is 'quick', like, seconds. The quicker the wash, the lighter the color. Relate it to RSO. That stuff can get soaked for days and weeks and looks like tar.
Big, recent experience on my part is even washing 220 micron ice water hash will give a green tincture off the bat. It will darken over time. Here's what I'm talking about.
First picture is hash and ethanol after the biomass settled to the bottom. Second picture is after a bit in the freezer and the first pass through a Buchner funnel with a coffee filter. After not too long, the green turned amber.
Maybe that's a thing. How did you filter your wash?

Thank you! I ground my flower, baked at 250 for 30 min. Froze in a jar, in another jar froze everclear. After maybe 24 hours mixed and soaked for 30 minutes. Shaking maybe 3 times.

filtered it through a coffee filter. I’m still not sure what I’m going to do with it now- I have a chemistry lesson to read again and again tomorrow. 😊

          thanks again, really appreciate it!

What you can do with it now is just what you would do with it were it your perfect color. You made tincture! Take a look at the main GWE website for cannacaps.
Grinding created a lot more surface area for the alcohol to wash, which means more chlorophyl. Broken bud is better than ground for keeping residual plant matter to a minimum.
Our standard household freezers are not sufficient to do much for making tincture. They are good for freezing trichomes to make them easier to knock off plant matter, that's about it. I honestly don't know why people freeze alcohol before using it.

Thanks!! I considered caps but tbh, my stomach doesn’t love my own decarbed weed. Even in the cookies. So I want to drink the tincture or use that in something but I don’t drink alcohol.

I think it was you that replied I can simmer off the ethanol. Just simmer long enough to remove the ethanol so the only “drug” is the thc. I’m going to read up more on that today. That’s my end goal at this point.

              thank you!! Really appreciate it!

Dry ice turns 91% gelatinous after it stops boiling.

Putting it on dry ice won't freeze it either. You should try that with your next extraction. Stick the ISO on dry ice then quick wash it. Chlorophyll is soluble in ISO and will strip it from buds as fast as the trichomes fall into the solution unfortunately. Can't be helped.

It is a bit pricey, but one can reclaim the alcohol with "source by extractcraft" google that.

Thanks, I saw that cool gizmo in many posts I read before pulling the trigger but that’s out of my price range sadly. Maybe a Christmas gift idea if this works out! Lol

Price put me off as well. Four gallons cost as much as a one of those mini stills and will give me 32-48 batches of my goo. Ease of evaporation is a bonus but not one I will pay for.
Something I've seen used is a coffee cup warmer. I might consider one next go.

I think I’ll try the crockpot- wish me luck!

You've made a cannabis tincture and now you’re ready to evaporate off the alcohol - but you’ve heard it can be dangerous. Discover all the different ways to evaporate alcohol from tinctures safely.

Rice Cookers work well too. Use an induction cooktop if in a pan. Explosions in the kitchen are not desirable
