If it is a variable speed model, it can be used to adjust temperatures. When it is very cold out, I adjust mine to minimum speed or off entirely and open the side ports. The temperature difference will result a real good air flow while retaining heat. Similarly, in hot conditions I will run the fan full bore to help with evaporative cooling off my cloth pots.
