COCO COIR 3-Way Nutrient Royal Rumble

It's that time again!! ⏰ Time for a fresh new grow in a fresh new thread. Like always, going to set up the parameters, full specs list and goals for this grow. This will be an ALL COC COIR GROW! No Peat to be found in sight.👀 The nutrients are all good, but the seedlings are giving me issues (mostly because bad genetics Blimburn 🤮) Let's dive in and the all the deets, shall we?

Genetics Line-up (so far, it's changed 2x already)

My Cross (blue dream x mac1) by TerpyTen

Sour Orange by Super Natural Seeds

Grape Caper x (Sherb Bx x OGX) by Purple Caper Seeds

    Birthday Cake by Blimburn

    FreakShow by Hi-Elevation Genetics

(Back-up: Purple Punch by b/w Label)

All I have is Ethos. I have about 10 different varieties but all from ethos. I wanted (and still want) to give other breeders a chance. I LOVED the results from Humboldt Seed Co. If I had monies, i would have bought something else from them as well as Elev8 seeds. I'm curious about their Oregon apple trail or something along those lines. Caught my attention but it's a 10pk .....Like....I don't need a 10pk. Same with Square One Genetics. DYING to try something form them but I don't have $100-150 for a 10pk. 🤷‍♀️ I don't see me growing them anytime in the near future.

    SOIL COMPOSITION

    Earthbox # 1

    6 gallons (22.7L) Canna Coco Coir, 4 gallons (15.14L) perlite (# 4 coarse), 2 gallons (7.5L) Fresh Earthworm castings. 3:2:1 ratio

Nutrients: Nature's Living Soil Original formula. 2lbs of fertilizer added to the mix
Watered in with NLS Soil Revival and let sit for a week in about 72 F (22.2 C)
(also tossed some mosquito bits on the topsoil) Never too early to start your IPM

    Earthbox # 2

7 gallons (26.5L) of Canna Coco Coir, 3 gallons (11.35L) of perlite 70/30 mix

Nutrients 18 tsp of Real Growers Grow Dots to the mix (medium strength 2tsp per gallon)
Watered in with Real Growers Recharge and let sit for a week at about 72 F ( 22.2C)
(also added mosquito bits on top)

    Fabric Pot with Self-Watering Base

3.5 gallons (13.3L) of substrate total (plus mosquito bits)
2 gallons (7.5L) Canna Coco Coir
    1 gallon (3.79L) perlite
These were left dry as they will be mineral based nutrients. No microbes needed to multiply.

Nutrients: General Hydroponics Trio plus Cali-Magic. Fulvic acid will be added via soil drench 1-2x a month.

I'll be using this Feeding schedule. Probably at the medium feed level. I'm going to try to keep my coco between 6.0-6.2pH I have my pH and EC pens at the ready! I will be using the EC scale rather than the PPM scales (since there's 2x) to avoid confusion.

The whole grow is going to be "Water ONLY" (**) with some BIG asterisks. Better phrase would be, "Everything will be Sub-Irrigated" I will only top water ONCE and that's after transplant. Every subsequent watering will be added to the reservoir.

As you can see, everything is ready. Soil is mixed, nutrients are at the ready, seedlings and clones are at the ready, we're just waiting on the Cannatrol to finish the current batch so we can chop down the 2x4 and get started on the next grow. only 28 hours left. Soon, very soon.

Gonna watch. Been considering a new brand.
You're not giving nutrients to seedlings, are you?

In coco you should but at 0.4 is a good start generally until they start to get going

Nah. All seeds were sprouted the same was I've been doing it for years now. Fox farm happy frog with some mykos and azos mixed in. Nothing else. I usually transplant before they need anything. Never go above 3 weeks. If I do, I add neem seed. It keeps them happy until I need them.

Got you on the knowing what you're doing N3S. I'd smoke your dope.
Just curious about your struggling seedlings because you said you are trying new stuff in coco.

Most of the seeds are fine...they grow well....they just end up males. It's not that they're unhealthy. I never sprout in coco. ALWAYS get helmet heads. With soil its like 80% success (no helmet) If I had all feminized seeds, wouldn't even be stressing it

Planted all the seedlings and Clone today. December 15 starts Day1 of veg. The line up has changed.... Again. No freak show. The one I thought was a female turned out to be a late blooming male. 🤷‍♂️

*All Coco coir used is Canna Brand Coco
**All transplants got 1 cup earthworm castings, 1tbsp azos + mykos

In the Coco/perlite mix with General Hydroponics. My personal cross. I already knew what she does in organics. I'm curious how she'll be in mineral based nutrients, so she won the lottery. I watered until runoff with 1.1 EC strength nutrient mix. A bit on the stronger side but you gotta remember she's a 5 month old plant she has taken up nutrients and she looks very hungry. If anything is going to bring her back it's a nice easy diet of water and nutrients.

Still in the 2x4 the earth box. 5 gallon Coco, 3 gallon perlite, 2 gallon earthworm castings + 2lbs Nature's Living Soil. On the left is the grape caper by purple caper seeds and on the right, sour orange by super natural seeds.(The roots on this one were absolutely nuts. I have a good feeling about this one. The Coco was initially watered using NLS Soil Revival. Today, I added 2L of water with 2tbsp mosquito bites. Gonna start out right and not have any gnats. Just as a precaution.

In the 2x3 we have one earth box running 70/30 Coco mix with Real Growers Grow Dots at 18 tsp total (medium strength dose). In this box we have to very fast growing and spunky cultivars that like to stretch and get BIG both in size and yield. Let's see how the grow dots do. We have Birthday Cake on the left by Blimburn and Purple Punch by generic b/w label. The Coco was initially watered in with Recharge. Today, I added 2L of water with BTI for gnat control.

I'm trying to reveg one of the UGs. So delicious, I want more!
The cameras are taking pictures again the room is at 0.9 kPa for VPD perfect for plants adjusting. DLI is at about 22 umol @18hrs The CO2 is at about 1000 ppm. It's just high on the meter because I was in the room for a while doing the work. During the winter it's really easy to keep the CO2 up in that room by just hanging out in there for an hour 2x a day. It's such a small room 😅 but it is airtight when there isn't a window AC in.

I expect these to get big. They are going in at day 7 and 14 respectively. They already have a root system. In 30 days, they'll be huge! Then going into the stretch they'll get even bigger. Should be interesting

Always prefer to use two plates and top of hot water heater to germinate, then place them gently in 1 cp size fabric pot..mine were all sewing by my wife from the weed Gard breathable fabric.

Lights - IMO the 5000k CFL or mix with 3500K work much better to start, then if I place them under my regular grow lights any how and once they outgrow those 1 cp "I probably leave them in there longer then most" but I transfer them to 3 gallon fabric pot and move them to grow tent under LED.

Not sure how mixing the w.c in with coco will work out but I guess you will let us know..

Perfect time to start winter grow....

You might want to choose strains that grow similar and require same e.c because it is a p.i.t.a to mix up multiple 5 gallon nute buckets and move them to the grow area..

Good Luck and hopefully by Christmas you will be on your way....

I'm not sure either about the castings in the mineral based ones. I'm sure it won't hurt things and might add that beneficial humic acid to chelate the minerals. We'll see. As far as cultivars go, I had a totally different line up but they ended up being males so I have to pivot. That's why I planted the older seedlings together and younger together. This way one won't over grow the other. The only one using liquid nutrients is the 3 gallon fabric pot so I don't have to worry about different cultivars with different needs. I'm sure the living soil will be fine. I'm hoping the grow dots do well too. I'm just worried about the liquid nutrients. Haven't had much luck in the past but I've done my research.

You will require good meters...IMO - If your one of your meters goes bust it is a major problem, have had a few Hannah PH and EC both became problematic and have sense moved over to Blue Labs.. PH up and PH down - Funny sometimes the nutes require PH up for a while and other times PH down... I suspect it depends on the resource water the city is bringing in and treating, for example our community uses great lake water which does have its own cycle through out the year.. Just an observation over the years but I remember thinking dam always had to ph down and from time to time I will have to ph up and that is with RO system...

They will grow out much quicker with the coco and 3 way....

        good luck

Everyone looks happy and healthy. Especially my cross, she was looking a bit rough but she perked up a bit, so that's a good sign. Transplant looks to be a success!

Had a water filter fiasco 😂 I swear if it's not one thing, it's another. Had to buy a whole new filter WITH casing because that casing is supposed to open but I broke METAL CHANNEL LOCKS trying to open it.

Because I put on a new filter, I had to get the specs of the water. Looks like we're at 7.7ph at 69.3°F. TDS bounces between 113 to 130. The EC is at 0.26. the water is all good. With the old filter on, I was getting about 200 TDS. It was certainly time for a new one. Not a moment to soon either. The mineral grow will thank me for sure. Speaking of.

I'm going to do what I did last time. I'm going to put the specs on the gallon when I mix it up. I can double check it before I put it in but at least it will be mostly ready.

I poured half gallon into the bases of all the pots. The earth boxes just got plain water while the GH got nutrient water.

I think the plants might have a bit of transplant shock. My guess, the temp. When they were in the dome, they were around 80 °F. When they got planted in the final homes, looking at lows of 72. I raised the heat a bit. Looking at 1.05kPa high and low at 0.86kPa. Need to lock that in a bit better. CO2 is consistently at 1200 lows at 1000ppm.

First week after transplant, done. All the girls are looking better and getting settled into their new homes. Everyone is on their way to greatness. I had the seedlings and clones in those small pots for so long.

They were used to depleted soil and I shove them into this microbe and nutrient rich soil. They freaked TF out for a second there 😅 my bad. The Grow Dots and GH nutrients did a little better with the transition. A bit more gentle transition for the plants.

The ones in the living soil look like they went into a volcano 😂. They have recovered though. I see the new leaves are coming through. On the time lapse, I see about a new set growing daily towards the end of the week. From now on it's going to be a race. I guess I could stand to have temps warmer but .... Space heaters are expensive AF to run. WAY more expensive then a window AC.

Temps are between 72-75F (22-24°C). Humidity between 55% and 62%. VPD keeps bouncing around a bit more than I would like...but I'll tighten ship when they start going into flower. I kinda want to give then different stressors during veg so they have resistance and knowledge of how to deal with anything later in life.

The GH pot has already gone through 1.5 gallons of water.... I'm guessing mostly through evaporation because of the fabric pot. I didn't put the plastic around it like I would do with living soil because I guess you might want a dry back with minerals??? IDK 😅 I'm just hoping she makes it. Last time I nearly killed a plant. It's certainly going better this time. She's got color coming back and she grew taller and grew 3 new leaves!!! So HOORAY!!! It's certainly going in the right direction. I've been giving her water at 1.05 - 1.11 EC. I had to top water ONE TIME. I think that's all. I might put some cardboard on top to trap some moisture but not too much because there's not going to salty Coco up there. Kinda like what you would see with the Auto Pot system with mineral nutrients. I don't want to flush them back down into the pot. She looks good on the time lapse. Starting from day 2 she was improving. Good to see.

The Grow Dots side is doing well. The purple punch is growing some huge leaves. I know this one can EXPLODE into an untamable monster. Purple Punch is known for getting BIG. She bounced back faster and the colors on her are good. The birthday cake is growing nicely too. She's growing leaves faster but they're not as big as the purple punch. They're both growing well though.
