    Germination question

Trouble with germination in jiffy pellets. Normally jiffys are my go to, no issues. I use them for everything. I have a couple of feminized seeds from my favorite lab that just won't germinate. Should I pH down to 6.0 or something my water when I hydrated my pellets? My water here is ground water and naturally high pH like around 8 or so. Seeds are not that old.
    Help?

If all things are equal between your successes and now, and all of a sudden your go-to doesn't work, you could have bum seeds. Doesn't matter how favorited or reputable the breeder.

Breaks my heart, but I believe you are right Gingerbeard. (Insert my sad emoji here)

However, do you pH your water even to germinate seeds? Just curious if I should use distilled water and pH it to soak my jiffys? I have read pretty much everything here on GWE, but have not seen mention of that.

I tried Jiffy pellets once with about 10 seeds and had zero germinate. Same seeds, paper towel method, gave me closer to 100% success.

        I won't use Jiffy again.

No matter what you read, none of the examples you see fit your circumstance. Your neighbor can have same-same everything you have and wind up with completely different results. The examples are guidelines, only.
I do not use JP's. My method is seed-to-coco with tap water until the first set of leaves show up. Sort of. You have to be there. My tap also comes in in the 8.0 range, but I do not worry about adjusting it. Seedlings need nothing special. They just need something not horrible. Me, personally, others disagree, empirical data is still on the board, plain distilled water is not good for plants.
Another thing to consider is putting the seeds in right side up. I have never done it, but some folks cut the plugs to see what's going on.
Thank you for the emoji option. Emojis are for people who run out of words. I have lots of words. Words I haven't even made up, yet!

Same as Gingerbeard and Bluey, Soak, paper towel, sprout, into coco. Tried a few different starter pellets and pods, more problems than not. Stay away from peat pots and such as well. I don't pH my water for sprouting or seedlings..just tap water which is 7-8 pH usually.

shot glass on top of the refrigerator for 4 day aint failed me yet. Usually have to push the floaters down after 24 hours soak.

Thank you all! I have not done it yet, but I am going to do the shot glass soak overnight, paper towel, then put the sprout straight to coco/perlite per the GWE instructions. To heck with the jiffys.

Give your coco a rinse/wash with a week nute mix before planting. An EC of around 0.4 to no more than 0.6 should work well. pH 6.0

Apologies for the noob questions, but what is the EC?

I'm no noob and I still don't know or care what the EC is. But, apparently, it is important.
To be fair, everything I have going on just seems to work without the extra concern. I've been lucky. I won't drink the water that comes out my tap but it's great for growing dope!
                I'll learn with you.

It all started with seed, dirt and water. Look at you now.
