Sunlight to Growlight ?

Hi Everybody, New on the site. Been growing in the UK for a few years, some in my garden some guerilla ! Wondering if you can help, want to move my Sativa which I will Scrog , my first time , from outside during the summer to grow lights in a shed I will complete by the fall…..any problems moving from sunlight to growlight ?

And a second question if I may: I would like to start my Sativa inside now mid-winter to get a good head start and Scrog but need to make sure it won’t stretch out of control as it will have the whole summer and spring aka six months until it goes under grow lights in my shed ? ……my last Sativa like Desfran , i LST and they still grew massive although they were in an eighty litre pot. If I plant them in a 25litre pot that is one thing that should keep their height down ? Any other suggestions ?

How big a shed do you have? 6 month veg will yield you very large plants regardless of what you do. Also, if you're going to ScrOG them you need to start training earlier. In 6 months the branches you need to bend will be woody and hard to bend and you'll probably snap a few.

I would use whatever plant you'll be vegging for the next 6 months as a mother plant and use it to propogate clones when your ScrOG is ready.

Thanks for the info rootsruler……I was always under the impression that you needed to give the veg season the full length of summer under sunlight …..my shed ain’t built yet and I gotta buy some grow lights ……I enjoy growing outside but the Sativa take so long to finish flowering and winter cold mold comes early. My shed will be about 3m x 2m. I will Scrog from very young, top after the 2nd node and build on from there. I guess I could just try develop as many heads and keep it as low as possible. Thanks again. I ve never got full heads with two previous Sativa outside , had to cut early and I had a heater , fan and dehumidifier going in a smalll poly tunnel. I ve only got a full cola with indica in the past because they flower early in the northern hemisphere. And that was a guerilla grow on the edge of a forest. I don’t mind an early cut coz it ain’t too potent but I miss the strong taste and aroma from a full head 🙂

Using a 25 ltr pot on a vegged plant outdoors will still result in a very tall but spindly looking plant that will substantially impact bud yields. It may even increase the chances of a male or hermie.

I wouldn't use anything less than a 50ltr and your choice of an 80ltr pot for a 6 month veg is a better choice.

Growing one plant in a 6x9' shed after 6 months veg will be difficult if it has been trained properly. It will be ar least 6ft wide if it's not 9 foot tall. If you can get an 8ft or even 10 foot wide shed that will allow room for you to walk around your plant and work on it. Remember to properly insulate the shed which will allow the light to keep the space warm enough in winter without a heater and the insulating process will also block escaping light, and go for at least an 8ft high ceiling. You'll need at least one 1000w LED bar light or a combination of smaller lights for added flexibility.. you'll probably also need space for shelving units to keep all your accessories on.

Consider catching rainwater off the roof into a raised 500ltr tank or similar. Gravity feed it inside or dont bother raising it and use a small pump.

Building a well functioning and efficient grow room requires substantial planning and investment and needs to give consideration to future cloning, mothering, drying, noise, heat, automation, stealth,....lots and lots of stuff.

It might help to have a pop up canopy ready for the rainy season if they’ve only got a short time to go. Once you have the shed built you can start them indoor so they have time to finish before the rain comes. They can take the cold but not the dampness. Good luck and welcome !

If you move from outside to inside, prepare to have pests move with the plants. Imo a partial defeat as to why one would decide to grow indoor vs outdoor.
