    Coco peat VS coco coir

Hey guys, I just went to the local nursery looking for coco coir.
unfortunately they don't know what that is and they offered me coco peat which looks pretty much the same.
    the label says :
    Ready mix coco peat disk
suitable for home vegetable and flower gardening
    indoor and outdoor flower pots.

    im confused now.

    is it the same thing?

I have attached picture to check.

I am familiar with both coco coir and peat. I am not familiar with a blend of the two, but I have seen threads where people do use a mix.

I used a peat product for my first 3 grows and am using coco coir for this grow. If I were to use a mix, I would use about 30% perlite to aid with drainage, since peat holds more water than coco coir.

I am confident that you can grow well in this mix, but given the choice, I would personally prefer coco/perlite over coco/peat/perlite.
    completed 7 grows
what I have learned so far:
    environment maters more than nutrients
at least a dab of nutrients in every watering
effective flushing before harvest is critical to quality

Roots organic original is a perlite, coco, peat mixture-
the only issue I find is with long grows the ph starts to drop and as I understand- this is due to the breakdown of peat causing acidity.
my work around has been a series of transplants with photoperiod plants, that are vegged more than 4 weeks.
Auto are quick enough, so no ph drop.

even though I have encountered the ph drop on long grows, it doesn't seem to effect anything, that late in a grow and I no longer even try to adjust the ph up!
It's all bullshit - until you smoke it!

What is the percentage of perlite I should mix?

3 coco coir to 1 perlite here . This grow my Cyco Platinum Coco coir got a new bag design, said Coco was the same. Not true: it is denser than before..more like BlackbMagic..settled into my smart pots with my normal mix SO next round I will increase my perlite a bit to the above ratio. Yesterday I had to top off the plants with more medium mix so I could stop caving in the edges of my pots with LST. That was a first.
