    Do it Right

I unfortunately had to end my last grow- the White Widow. Her leaves just weren't improving no matter what I did. I guess I just chault that up to experience. Sh*t happens lol
What I WANT to do with my next grow is simply DO IT RIGHT. I want the perfect grow...the perfect plant (don't we all?)

The following is what Ive been using for my last few growscomments, suggestions welcome)

Soil: Coast of Maine Stonington Blend. I'm undecided if I want to continue with this or try something else...maybe Roots Organic 7-7?

Pot: 5 gallon cloth (magic pot) should I jump up to 7?

light: Flora Gear Flora S4 400w dimmable. Should I be using this at full strength during veg? I've heard no

Nutrients: With the Stonington Blend I had been using their nutes (organic plant food for veg) and following their schedule. Ive heard from a few people that while using Stonington Blend, NO nutes should be used
    (opinions, please)

    Grow Space: Indoors. Spare closet dimensions: 7 1/2' long x 20" deep x 8 1/2' tall

misc: mylar sheeting on back wall and inside door

I'm preparing for my next grow. I started germinated 4 Gorilla Glue and 4 Blue Dream on 4/25. They germinated on 4/24. I haven't decided if I'm going to go with one or 2 plants but whichever route I choose I will select the two best seedlings and go from there

Any and all comments, suggestions or even constructive criticim greatly apprreciated. Thank you

Stonington Blend is pretty hot. Only used it once and it lasted almost to flower with no nutes.

Sorry to hear that you had to chuck the plants. But I'm happy to see that you're keeping on keeping on and that you're looking to learn more!

I've put below what I use based on what you mentioned in your post but feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

I've also attached some pics of my current grow that I took today (4 plants all Alaska Thunderfuck) which is in Week 5 of flower and (smelling AMAZING!) just so you can see my setup a little bit and the results of using what I list below.

Soil: I've never used Coast of Main. I have used Roots Organic for this and the last grow and it's been great. Drainage is good and since I grow organic, I use my soil again and again. So I can say +1 for the Roots Organic soil!

Pot: I use 7 gallon cloth pots. The 7 gallons are nice because when growing organic, it can hold on to nutrients, the roots have a lot of space to spread out, and more roots = better growth = more resilience to difficulties = more yield. Drawbacks: gotta buy more soil than if you were using 5 gallon, have to be careful to not overwater especially when seedlings (I plant my seedlings directly into the 7 gallon pot)

light: Light strength depends on height above canopy. The manufacturer should have a chart for what intensity and what height they should be from the canopy based on stage of growth. In general, you want to have as much light as possible (since light is food for plants!) without causing heat or light stress/damage. Start with the manufacturer's guidelines and go from there.

Nutrients: I've used Earth Dust for a couple of years, but TGSC closed so bye bye Earth Dust! I've switched to Roots Organic Terp Tea Bloom (just for the bloom, I used Earth Dust for the veg part but when I ran out, I switched to Roots and I'll definitely use it in veg on my next run) and it works amazingly! I just top dress and water it in once a week, about 1 tsp per gallon of soil and as you can see, it is working super well!

Grow Space: That's a nice big space you have! I'm assuming you're making sure that the lights are above the plants and the mylar lining sounds like you've considered having as many reflective surfaces as possible to bounce all that light around so good on you! In a space that big, ventilation and circulation are going to be really important, so make sure that you've got both of those under control. There are lots of ways to do that using a closet, but you'll need to consider your space to find what works for you. I will say that I have an oscillating clip fan in my tent and it's da bomb.

May I ask where you got your seeds. As far as I know AF was clone only and has been lost for years. Your flowers are nice but AF is an old strain and wasn't near that frosty.

Yeah, it has a pretty interesting back story! Got them from Seed Supreme: https://seedsupreme.com/alaskan-thun...feminized.html Whether or not they're the 'original' genetics, I have no idea.

You sound like what I had in my closet. But someone from the group suggested getting air in and out of the closet. If its hot its going to suffocate. Good Luck. Oh after the air I had a great alcupolco gold and amnesia haze.

Why would you waist 4 of each seed if you only intend to grow 1-2 plants?

I usually wouldn't! However...I was playing a strong hunch. As of this morning (4/28) 2 Blue Dream are thriving and two of the Gorilla Glue have moved past the "popped" stage. Even those two don't look healthy at all!

demcc3 if your starting seeds in straight Stonington blend it's pretty hot for seedlings.

Give them time demcc3 wait a wk or 2 before you toss them out. I've had wonky looking seedlings so many times but they straighten out an most the time grow really well. And what i use for my seeds/seedlings i use no ferts in the soil only light seedling soil more like plain coco & perlite. I won't let them struggle in hot soil, save that for the last transplant of them. Or mix that hot soil with something light an fluffy give those roots a chance.
