Is the reason for topping just if you can't grow it tall. because my tent i would be able to get it to almost 6ft

Yes that's where u top it. Topping does keep the plant shorter and bushy but it also increases yield. You should wait for a few more replys before topping, there are other methods and I'm a Newby grower myself. Get some more imput.

Too young for topping was my first thought also.

I top mine about that size and age, I have never had any issues from it. I do it because I only want to veg for about 30 days then flip to 12/12 so I try to get the most horizontal growth in that time.

iirc, this tutorial explains the why and whentouse of it...

Topping and FIMing are two plant training techniques that involve "pinching" or cutting off some of the top growth of your plant. These techniques are designed to give you a free way to achieve better plant shape (to make better use of the available light

if it's not that one then i think it's this one...

Wait until there are six nodes, then cut it above the third node. If You cut the plant too early, it could stress it slowing the growth, or worse. I just use the LST method because I have not had much luck with topping the plants. They, almost always, grew un-symmetrically, one branch grew and the other would be 'stunted', so I do the training and have had good results.
