    Worm castings and pH

Will worm castings affect pH in a coco/perlite garden? My pH in the pot is drifting down more than usual. The castings are new and different in my garden.

Fresh worm castings will normally have a neutral PH of 7.0. Store bought is often mixed with nutrients like bat or chicken shit and this can make it somewhat hot. Store bought is also pretty sterile for packaging purposes and lacks a lot of beneficial bacteria. Once you introduce it to a living soil the bacteria and enzymes move in and will balance PH in a matter of days. If I buy commercial packaged castings I will mix it with my own worm bin castings in a bucket for a a day or two before I top dress.

It was the Wiggle Worm packaged stuff from amazon. I used it as a top dressing and kind of scraped it into the top coco then watered normal. 6 tbs in a 3 gallon pot of coco/perlite normally fed with GH Trio n calmag all from the bottle.
