'em are good worms. They can be dropped on the soil and work their way down. They're also great for fish, which, are also good for soil.
However... I've asked the question about adding nutes to soil with added worms and using hot soil with worms. No answer. Also, at some point, the pot becomes pretty root bound. Will that affect the worms' ability to worm? In conclusion, what kind of moisture level do you have to keep your soil to keep the worms alive but not keep the soil moist all the time?
A final suggestion. Get soil now for two grows from now. Get yourself a wormery going in a large pot. Super easy. That soil will be primo when you use it. Worms and worm poop include.
    Thank you for reading.

I keep a worm bin and use the compost and the worms in living soil. Eisenia fetida is the species you want. They can be found in compost piles or you can buy them at pet stores where they keep the live food for reptiles and such. Don't get nightcrawlers whatever you do. Fresh worm castings (the good kind that few grow shops have) will contain live worms and worm cocoons. I strongly recommend a worm bin of some kind. I use a Worm Factory with interchangeable trays loaded with spent coco mix. We just dump leftover vegetable bits in the top and rotate the trays once every month or two and the worms do all the hard work. I use a living soil that is a blend of store-bought Build-A-Soil 3.0 and homemade. I grow in City Pickers which are a bigger version of Earth boxes. Basically, you load them with soil mix then water through a tube to fill a small reservoir at the bottom of the box so water can absorb through the soil from the bottom up. A mulch cover or actual mulch keeps the soil moist throughout. I mixed in some fresh worm compost along with a few worms to start and they will aerate and enrich the soil with their leavings. I don't even bother to adjust pH. I just let tap water sit out with an airstone overnight before I use it.

Red wigglers are great. Most bait and tackle stores have them. No night crawlers. They need cool conditions. My compost bin is full of them. I add 1/3 the pot size in compost and worms then potting soil on top. Minimum 4 gallon pots. As long as you don't let the pot dry out too much they will still be alive at harvest then they go back into the bin.

McD's has promised that in the future they will no longer use earth worm protein in their burgers.

It's been at least 37 years since I've had McD's. Goddamn worst food I've ever eaten. After, I mean. Only good fast-food is mom-n-pop Mexican and Pho.
