I don't think there's a wrong way to train a plant you just gotta do a shit load of reading and trying different methods to find the one that works best for you and your space. I manifold most of my photoperiod plants but stay with a more natural approach with my autoflowers and just do a single top with minimal defoliation and little pushing n pulling on em....

If you click the menu button (three little lines at the top left of this page) then click "growing basics" there's a lot of information and how to tutorials

Let the leaf go or tuck it if it’s in the way, later if need be it’s easier to defoliate not being bound down. But like mentioned above there’s really no wrong way just finding a groove.

I begin my LST when I have a mature 5th node, by tying down just under the fans of that node and pulling down the apical stem to appox. 80°(I get stem damage if I go further.)
As the stem adds nodes and turn up to the light, I move my tie down outward, tying down under the 6th, 7th, 8th and so on. As the axillary stems grow out from the base of the fan, I will restrain just under the bud site and pull down those stems, separating them around the pot to achieve the anatomy you see in the last picture. If fans are in the way, I pinch and bend. This is the method I settled on after trial and error.
