Trying cloning for the first time. I took cuttings just above the first node from a couple plants I have in veg. I put in water right after cutting at a 45 angle. Then dipped into powder rooting hormone and put it into my medium. Pushed it in roughly 1”. First round about 6 months ago it took 2 weeks for me to pull them and see no roots. I decided to try and cut higher up with maybe a node left and re planted. Finally took a week later. I think my temps were to low. Sat at around 70F. This time I had temp around 80F. About a week in and I decided to check one that’s looking rough for roots. Pulled it and looked like I had very very small roots starting. Then one moved, then I realized all were moving and then realized they were tiny white worms that looked like roots they were so small. What the hell? It’s Happened with all the ones in jiffy pellets. The Rockwool looked fine. What am I doing wrong and what are these worms. I kept the clones thinking maybe they arnt terrible. I did have 5/5 success with tomatoes in the exact same conditions. What am I doing wrong with the clones.

Are you using a humidity dome and misting regularly? Sounds to me like your jiffy pellets may contain some kind of critter eggs. Maybe fungus gnats.

Agree with crucialbunny, think your jiffy pellets were infested, especially if the rockwool cuttings are fine. Not a fan of jiffy pellets...used them early in my growing. I felt they restricted the roots too much at seedling stage. I clone in water till roots are inch long or better, then into coco/perlite, cause its light and airy for root development. About a week later, put them in whatever grow medium im using at the time. For some reason cloning was a struggle this spring in my area..thought it was just me but i spoke with two other large quantity growers and they had issues as well. Took almost twice as long for good root development.Shappel S3000 3.5x6x6' ice hut
