    Does it smell outside?

I have two girls growing in a tent. They are supposed to both be Amnesia Haze autos, but as you can see, they are clearly not the same strain. It looks like one is indica leaning and the taller one is hopefully the Amnesia Haze that I asked for, judging from her lankiness.

So it looks like they’re going to be ready for harvest at very different times, and I have to dry in the same tent where I grow. So you can see I’m in a pickle because I’ll have nowhere to put the sativa that’ll finish second while the indica is drying. I think my only option is to move the sativa outside to my deck while the indica is drying.

I’ve never grown outdoors before so I don’t know anything about it. I do have neighbors and I don’t want to be obnoxious and create a constant stank that permeates the air 24/7. So my question is, if I put the sativa outside when it is probably just 2 or 3 weeks from harvest, will it produce a strong smell that my neighbors will notice? I live in a typical suburban neighborhood with 1/3 acre lot and I have neighbors to both sides of me that are physically pretty close by.

    Thanks!

Yes it smells outdoors, I love it and so do my neighbors. If your legal who cares, my only concern is being ripped off.

Do you ever move plants between indoor tent and outside? I want to put my baby outside to get some sun, but Im worried about bringing bugs back inside to the rest of my plants

It's going to stank outside lol but it's about the way the breeze is blowing on who will smell it and unless they look for it and it is visible they won't know where the smell is coming from. I just moved into this house and I can smell someone around me smokes weed but I can't tell who it is, I have my suspicions though lol

As for your plants not being the same strain I'm going to guess they probably are. Plants are like people just because they have the same parents doesn't mean they'll be twins, most brothers n sisters don't look alike

Damn ok, thanks everyone for the feedback. Seems pretty unanimous. It isn’t really an option for me to have it stink bad outside, it might sour relations with my neighbors and I don’t want to go there.

Looks like I’ll have to get creative here… can I maybe put the drying buds from the plant that finishes first in a cardboard box inside the tent while the lights are still on finishing the second plant?

Before I got a smaller tent for drying, I used the HVAC room in my basement. Do you have something like that you can use? Or maybe this- https://www.amazon.com/Bankers-Box-S...173997&sr=8-13

Thanks panalilies for suggesting that box. Think it would be okay in a tent with lights on while the second plant finishes?

I think if you made sure any light* holes are covered, it should work fine just need to maintain humidity and temps like normal

If a plant grows in a yard and there is no one there to smell it, does it produce an odor?

It will depend on where the wind is blowing. If you can keep them out of sight, then no one knows where it is coming from. If you can't , then alternate plans are in order.
Don't worry, be happy, grow sticky buds.

I have to have them in the tent for odor control reasons, I need the carbon filter working on both the drying buds from the first plant and the finishing live second plant. It’s not an option for me to completely stink up my house, despite how much I personally might enjoy that

So far it seems like a big cardboard box with ventilation holes sitting in the tent next to the finishing plants under the light might be my best bet.

Sounds workable if you can keep the temp in the box down. Perhaps a white towel over the box would help a little with heat from the light? 50ish F is ideal for drying.

What am I missing in this post? Why would you place the drying plants in a box just because they are in a tent with live plants. Does the light affect the drying?

Light and heat degrade THC, which is why you want to dry and cure in a dark and cool place. https://mylocalroots.com/blog/sunlig...aging-cannabis

While I don’t want to dispute that light can degrade your weed a little I have dried plants in a lit tent where I harvest over a period of days to weeks and my weed still smells great and will do everything you need it to do (gets me HAF anyways). I have noticed that the light has more impact on the colour of your bud - the stuff I’ve left in more light has faded to the brown of tobacco over time, but still potent. I vote if you have no other choice than to dry in a tent you are growing in then go for it, your weed will be fine (assuming your rH is acceptable for drying and your growing crop has no aphids, WPM or problems you don’t want in your jars). I’ve taken to washing my bud so this is less of an option for me these days due to dripping water and spikes in rH when I hang up newly washed weed but it is still possible.

I thought about it but then I’d need another carbon filter and another duct fan. Starts to add up pretty quick.

You can cheat a bit and link a small tent to the main one with ducting. I've got my nursery tent vented that way.

I got this and hang it in my closet when harvest time comes. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I also have a drying box which is basically a 1x2x2 ft box with an intake hole and a pc fan for out take. Something similar to this product https://www.amazon.com/Magic-Herb-Dr...-garden&sr=1-3.

I would never dry my buds in the same tent i am currently growing just because of heat and potential light leaking which speed up the decay of THC but that is my preference.

Thanks for the suggestion, Tersky. That’s a cool dry box, unfortunately it’s not really in the budget right now. I don’t relish the idea of drying in the tent with lights on, but I’m having trouble figuring out a better option without either stinking up the house, stinking up the neighborhood, or spending lots of money, none of which are an option for me.

I can’t because I need to control the smell. It’s not an option for me to stink up the entire house, even though I might personally enjoy that.

Thanks to everyone for their input on how these two girls might very well actually be the same strain after all. These are from Nirvana, by the way. I figured that since they’re from a well-established breeder, and they were treated exactly the same, that they would at least have some traits in common. They were both grown completely naturally and untouched: no topping, training, or significant defoliation (I wanted to see what it would look like without any modifications from myself) and still one is about 17” taller than the other (note the shorter one is sitting on a milk crate), the shorter one is thick, squat, and bushy, while the taller one is super lanky and spread out. But, I hear you guys; maybe they’re the same strain after all. I didn’t expect them to look identical, just more similar than that.
