    Dry Ice Hash Question

Getting ready to harvest my first grow and I plan on making dry ice hash with the trim. I watched the video tutorial on this site and it left me with one question. I'm planning to wet trim, so I'm wondering if I need to dry the trim before making hash with it?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I take off a ton of leaf during harvest, some with some sugar on it. I don't mess with keeping that stuff as my main goal is to control the dry time and making final dry trim faster and easier. Final trim goes through the ice hash process. You could keep your wet trimmings for the dry ice run. I'm guessing it wouldn't need to be completely dry but I think you'll get better results if it is.

I am ready to get flamed for writing this.

I don't think it's a good practice (using dry ice to make hash) but I'm often wrong and can be convinced otherwise. I would stick to the 73, or a 90 at most for a bubble bag. I've made it this way few years ago and the issues I have with it: it's brutal, the dry ice shatters the trichomes; if you use a bag higher than 90 the output is too coarse, too much plant matter with the trichomes. I think the best way to make hash is either to use dry sift filter screens (relatively easy), or bubble hash (what a pain that is to make imo). I would not use flower that is uncured with dry ice. It should be cured, not just dried. If it's not cured there's going to be more chlorophyll in the dry ice hash than I can take. Tastes like a swamp and is very very harsh. The less cured it is the greener your hash output will be.

However some people may have success and like it which is great, just opinions. People sure bought it when it was available.

I don't want to be the bad ass here but for me premium hash is how cured is your colas. I tried both techniques and now I'm sticking to sifting. The trimming is fine but it's not the top quality I'm looking for. Oh yes I do cure my hash.

I only use buds for my hash and I do cure it.

I am a long (long long) way from being an expert in the topic but if I am going to make hash it would be with cured trim and/or bud. The one time I made bubble hash with uncured it was so astringent tasting I tried it once and never again - it is still sitting in a container so old it has turned dark brown. Kind of sad given the mess making it. I have some sift I purchased and it is a lot nicer. I was going to try dry ice but it was quite hard to find around here. I still haven’t found any locally. EDIT - just to add, I dry and at least partially cure all my trim (the stuff I will keep) before storing it in the freezer. I use it more for edibles but I am convinced it helps with the taste.

Ok when I search my archive there is this, the last time I made dry ice hash. I never smoked any, but there were people who loved it.

if somebody makes this, I found it a good practice to tape a desiccant packet to the underside of the mason jar lid. If not, mold may happen. The pic may look good but it's harsh, it's sift from a 90 bag. And you can't press it either, from my experience.

Good point about the desiccant packs. I’ve often wondered about that and try to keep them on edge so they touch the bud only minimally, but attaching to the lid is a great idea.
