    To pinch or not to pinch....

    Purple auto, 11 inches tall, just entering her 5th week.
    Should I pinch her top out?

    Yeah you can top her if you want to. Also, she looks a little stretchy. You may want to lower your light a little bit.

      Thanks for that dphipps.
      Also - those really big fan leaves on the 2nd node - could I lose those?

        I agree with dphipps1020, you can top it, and it is stretchy. I wouldn't remove those fan leaves, not yet, especially because you are going to top the plant and it will want food to recover. Food and energy the leaves provide. I tend to only remove leaves that aren't getting light, plus leaves in the center of the plant to open it up so it can breathe.

          You could top it but at 5 weeks and being an auto i wouldnt bother..I grow autos and i normally keep the light a little further away when there young so they stretch till there very similar to how yours looks,then i gently bend the plant over at right angles and tie it down.That way alot more light gets to the lower growth and its alot easier to keep an even canopy.I started doing it like this purely because i only have 5ft of height and wanted to keep the plants short but i couldnt believe the difference in yield.Now i always grow autos like this without topping.Less stress on the plant and loads more weed to smoke,what more could anyone want.
          Grow tent=120x60x150 for veg,300x150x160 for flowering
          Current grow=4x dwarf autos,

          Nutrients=canna a+b plus calmag
          Lighting=2x110w QBs for veg,2x600w hps/digital+dimmable for flowering
          Ventilation=Small tent 2x4" ac infinity fans and 2x rhino carbon filters Large tent 8"ac infinity fan+filter.
          Circulation=2x6"oscilating fans in smaller tent, 2x8" oscilating fans and 12" static in large tent
          Pots=12l fabric
          Temps with light on 23-24c,lights of 17-18c

            Hmm... Different strokes etc.
            I can see where you're coming from George, but that's sounds a bit complicated for a new grower like me - but thanks.
            Besides, I've already bitten the bullet and gone ahead with topping. Actually, I FIMed, which apparently is less stressful than topping.

            How soon do you reckon this gal will enter her flowering stage?

              An auto at 5 weeks is probably either just started early bloom or is very shortly about to do so.

            I agree with george66, bend her over and secure to the edge then turn to follow it as she will. Now you can lower or increase wattage in lighting. She really needs it. Those lower nodes will then explode with new bud sites. My manifold/LST showed me to just be slow and patient in doing this and they will respond immediately.

              Ha, you were sending while I was typing. As you have only fimed her, you still can still do LST to give a flat canopy so the lower sites can develop. Good luck!

                Interesting!
                Maybe I'll try a bit of bending.

                But, with what shall I bend her, dear Lisa, dear Lisa??

                  Good one welshweed , any thing from pipe cleaners to small rope that won't cut the stems can pull down maybe just at couple inches a day if needed. Supercrop of the stems by manual massage is an option. Don't have to be perfectly flat just expose the bottom to more light and let them grow. As I've said before, it ain't rocket science but we all learn from each grow and try again. That is being scientific IMHO and it is more fun than sex in a closet!
