I use a coffee bean grinder it will do a 1/4 ounce at a time, good for a couple of days. but it takes some getting used too. OZ I like the idea behind your herb grinder it looks like you can take it all apart for cleaning I'm going to look into that thanksnew grow room built summer of 2017 ,argo max tent for veging ,big kahuna reflector, 1000hps with added leds for the full spectrum . 15th indoor grow ,5 years outside gorilla grows(stealth is the key),veg under t5s growing autos under 300w leds

If your stash comes and goes very quickly, you probably don't need to worry about how carefully you store and handle it. I'm the opposite end of that scale. I like to have lots of choices, so there's always a couple little bags from last year's best plants in a thermos at the back of my freezer. If you are serious about keeping it fresh for a long time, you need to treat it like the complex and oxygen-sensitive stuff it is.
From a chemist's perspective: Weed, especially its active cannabinoids, will be degraded by exposure to oxygen in the air. Grinding it exposes more surface area and makes this process happen faster. A pile of dust-fine ground weed will be affected much more than an intact bud. Depending on local humidity, it may also lose moisture quickly and wind up dry and harsh. If you find it convenient to grind/chop/cut large amounts at a time, store the product in tightly sealed bottles or bags and take out what you need for a day or two. Pharmacy pill bottles were made for this.
I'm also a tool-user, so it feels natural to handle my dope with something like:

Jeg, I think you understand -- some people are instinctive tool users and for them, tweezers are just finger extensions. The ones I linked to are about the right size and weight, and cost only about $2 each on Amazon. Between not losing a lot on fingertips and taking just what you need each time, it's easy to avoid wasting bud.

nice write up Zativa . as a chemist here's a question for long term storage what do you think about Quart jars vacuum sealed in the freezer " I like the thermos idea alreadynew grow room built summer of 2017 ,argo max tent for veging ,big kahuna reflector, 1000hps with added leds for the full spectrum . 15th indoor grow ,5 years outside gorilla grows(stealth is the key),veg under t5s growing autos under 300w leds

The freezer definitely helps keep your product fresh for a very long time. All chemical reactions happen much more slowly at low temperatures, including processes like oxidation which can damage your weed's cannabinoids and terpenes. I especially use it to keep samples of my favorite grows like new for special occasions. Mostly I just use heavy-duty zipper bags since they don't take nearly as much freezer space as glass jars. Inside a thermos, the temperature stays constant so your herb doesn't get freezer burned nearly as fast.

So I went out and grabbed a cheap grinder just to see what they were all about... they alright. They grind. I currently slice mine using two razor blades and it works better for me. Tad bit dangerous maybe but Ive used these blades daily for 30+ years. Anyway just wanted to share my thoughts1 Photo

In years past, I was a razor blade user. Something very primitive and satisfying about chopping small amounts by hand rather than processing an entire bag at once with a tool. As soon as you chop or grind it the product begins to react with air and moisture, so it keeps best if you do just what you need.
