    Keeping her low?

So I'm getting ready to do my second grow after growing a beautiful tall big bushy male! Very sad day when I found that out. Anyways I did well with the low stress training to get a great canopy but my plant was very tall compared to the pot and I've been seeing a lot of pictures of guys doing low stress training and keeping McKenna be close to the pot how is that accomplished? Every time I grow from a seed it always shoots up a good five six inches before it actually starts bulking up. I like to keep it closer to the pot. More like the the this pic.. or is this from a clone? Any advice will help. Thanks guys as always.

I am on my first grow....Autos and germed them in a humidity dome in root riots...They germed and were starting to stretch and Green told me to take the dome off and lower the light. I did just that and I made them squat and now they are about 6" TALL AND 10" WIDE... all kinds of new growth and they are going crazy....Light, Light ,Light.....but do your research and do the correct amount of Light...They are all different in many ways and also the strains that we grow react so differently to the different lights...Good Luck...Happy Growing....

Topping or fimming them will certainly encourage lateral growth. Cannabis grows via apical dominance. That means the plant will divert as much energy as possible to the meristem (main stalk) And try to grow as tall as possible. This is because it's a wind pollinated plant.

If you break the apical dominance, it will distribute the energy more evenly across the plant, thus making a bushy plant.

Most people top at the 4th or 5th node. If you train them correctly you can get away with a single topping and a very bushy plant.

I have to say that in their first days Light is the biggest thing to make them squat...

I started training real early--without topping. In the front left you see Mr. Green Crack (who turned out to be a boy): he shot straight up and was the first to be tied down. He is, of course, absent from the second picture, but that's my canopy right now.... I kept them quite low throughout veg, and the stretch is still going on a little at the end of week 4 flower.

Not all the same height, but they allow me to defoliate and let the sunshine in... I mean the MH...

You have lights on the floor? Lights above, as well? Is this a thing or are you doing something different from the crowd?

It's a BCNorthernLights growbox--a RoomMate. I can't take any credit for the design!!!

One of my tricks is to transplant low in the target container, sometimes not filling the target container all the way w/ media until the plant grows taller. Stem that grew above ground ends up below. I do this twice - once when going from cube to Solo cup and again when going to the final 3 or 5-gal pot. I also manifold.
