Week 5 and the pollen is coating most things inside the tent, including the author of this post. ACHOO. I have to open this one last every visit to the grow room because of that! After reading through GWE's seed production posts, I've started adding some grow nutrient back into the reservoir to assist with seed production. It probably doesn't show much, but the plants have been dropping lower leaves for about two weeks because of low nitrogen levels. It is becoming obvious that there won't be any big buds from this grow because of the early and overwhelming pollination. The bright side of that is that most of these seeds will have an impressive father plant (front left).

Next GTH grow will be for sinse but who knows when right now. I plan on cutting these males down in a few days and preserving as much pollen as I can for future use. That way, I can do selective pollination instead of nature's way which is incredibly efficient for continuing the species but not great for my little habit.

Oh yes, Expert Lavender will be grown after harvest, breakdown and cleanout. And maybe some Super Lemon Haze or other citrusy variety to go alongside that grow. Time will snitch.

Honestly, anybody would be sneezing after poking their head in this tent!

The fathers have been cleared out of the maternity ward!

Yesterday I filled a gallon ziploc bag with male flowers harvested from those two magnificent gentlemen. And then, of course since their purpose in life is fulfilled, they were cut down.

The root ball from the one in hydro was stained brown but healthy. I was too sneezy and desperate to get upstairs to shower to get pics of it. Tomorrow is feeding day and there will be a significantly more open looking group shot with those two out of the way. On my visit there to check pH a few minutes ago, the atmosphere inside was much more tolerable. I also noticed that the sweet smell is diminished and that the ripening buds are smelling spicy.

Skunk gets it next. I don't need quite as much seed from them and the lone male is only getting dustier.

The boys are gone and I can work in here without sneezing! Seeds continue to strain their bracts and it isn't hard to find one where the seeds are splitting the bracts. The fertilization was so complete that even some preflowers actually produced seed! Enjoy a bit of bud porn:

Week 7! Maybe only two more to go? GTH now smells very peppery with only the girls in here. Bud porn is a little out of focus but one shot does show how the bracts are stretching and splitting. I've employed a yoyo that was never taken out of the tent to hold up one of the branches. Most others are laying over from the weight of the seeded bud. Another tent like this one and another light like this tent uses are on the way! I plan to grow out my feminized stuff in coco with space for manifolding and all that good stuff that gets you baseball bat colas if you do it right. Cindy 99 will be next here. I can't justify waiting any longer, so another seeded grow with a sativa-dominant monster is coming.

Happy Easter, y'all! GTH started dropping seed Thursday night! I will feed them one more time this afternoon then likely chop next weekend. I've already made back the eight seeds from Rare Dankness that I expended at the beginning, so I'm in the black on this project! I dropped off a pack of ten with the guy at the grow shop to try out and still have about 50 saved so far just from what fell off the buds. The question of when seeded bud is ready was answered - finished seeds will simply pop their bracts and fall out!

Their tent gets a new neighbor today because the 4x4 tent I ordered came yesterday. It will be for fems and autos in coco with manifolding and stakes and all the other stuff I can't do well with this hydro setup here. This project's tent will continue to generate seed stock for trade and personal grows until I run out of worthy projects. Cinderella 99 is next with Crockett's Tangie likely to follow. I think I need to invest in calendar whiteboard to schedule grow projects next.

Week 8 and probably the final one is here! GTH continues to drop seed from its older flowers. I've noticed these ripe ones fall over and won't stand by themselves. I would guess that this is to help distribute seeds over a wider area in nature. I also noticed last week but failed to mention that I'm now smelling a citrus scent to go along with the pepper, which is more like finished GTH. I'm getting eager to chop these girls down next week so I can begin to begin prepping this tent for a Cinderella 99 grow for similar purposes.

The first photo is a side view I won't be able to do as well again with the new 4x4 tent installed to the left of this one. 2 and 4 are buds from different plants. 4 seems to show a different maturation pattern as all the other buds with mature seed still have green bracts surrounding the seed. 3 is a normal group shot taken from the front of the tent.

I've managed to gather 50-60 seeds so far and will consider trades.

At the beginning of their last weekend, 172 seeds have dropped. That's only 28 short of my low prediction for yield and the buds are still packed.

At $10 a bean on average from online retailers, yes indeed this is a small fortune I'm amassing. At the very least, I can save a small fortune buying seeds by having something to trade with now.

Chop was Sunday. I got stupid busy at work Monday through Wednesday and didn't get to post. I took them all down a branch at a time then raised the scrog net to make a sort of hammock for them to dry and drop seed. Drop seed they did. I now have about 600-700 in a tea tin. I could toss the whole rest of this mess and still have seed enough of GTH to last a helluva long time.

There are at least three major phenos of GTH and I managed to get at least one of each in female form. The total sativa pheno when fertilized looks very much like the drawings of cannabis from hundreds of years ago. Few sugar leaves and just a loose cluster of individual seed bracts. The sativa pheno is responsible for littering my floor with seed. The indica-dominant buds tend to hold their seed until after the plant is drying out. The bud in Project Sam (Skunk #1) hasn't dropped a seed yet and has similar bud structure. Speaking of dropping seed, I checked on the buds drying in my 32x32 tent. When I grabbed the Purple Haze, I heard a familiar tap and collected a lone Purple Haze X Ghost Train Haze #1 seed. It could be a Skunk cross too, but GTH pollen was ubiquitous for a while. Gotta rinse those hands between tents.

This grow was the first where I found roots creeping into the return pipes. Nothing serious but it can happen in long grows. No root rot was noticed. The brown color in the photo is from tannins in the nutes I use.

This kind of project is something everybody should try once. Once is enough, considering how many seeds are generated! I can almost imagine growing for seed being more profitable than growing for bud, provided one can find a buyer. Either way, I learned things about the nature of the plant that I never would have otherwise. The whole RDWC setup is disassembled and waiting for this weekend when I can scour everything out. If I go ahead with chop on Project Sam on Sunday, that will make three consecutive weekends that I've harvested plants.

Coming soon: Project Pumpkin - Cinderella 99 from Brothers Grimm will be grown out for seed in the same fashion GTH was. I think this will be the way for all initial grows of regular seeds going forth.

They've been drying for over a week now. I trimmed all the bud off the stems and have the bud hanging in a mesh bag to finish drying a bit faster. The tea tin is almost full and will overflow once I start gleaning the good seed out of the buds! I took a bud about the size of my thumb and easily picked a dozen or so good ones from it this afternoon. I also have a small pile of green seeds and some that are still in their bracts and may be good ones. Once all that is processed, I will probably toss those to the birds. I hope to update with a final count after a while. Meanwhile, I have a very nice collection of Skunks to look after and a new tent with some spread-out Purple Haze clones just starting flower to keep me occupied. And if that wasn't enough, I've started four different autos in my 32x32 tent!

The smell from the GTH bud I do have is a lot like lemon-pepper trout without the fish. Perhaps if I crossed with Tuna God...

All told I'm happy with the increase given after sacrificing a grow to Jah. Happy 420! Keep the spirit all year long!

Seed collection from the curing buds is going slowly because it's pretty tedious work. I estimate that I have 1200-1500 in tea tins and another 500 or so that are green, deformed or questionable at best in their own jar for bird food. The good ones are available for trade and I've already started sending them out!

Project Pumpkin is beginning haltingly. I started six seeds with the paper towel method on Monday and only one has even cracked open as of today. This afternoon I moved them to rooter plugs under white LEDs to hopefully get them in gear. I have five more seeds in reserve, though.
