The job I've got now is great but only for the harvest season. What I really want to do is a trade as an electrician or doing refrigeration & air conditioning. The job I just heard back about was an apprentice electrician job. But the way things are here in Aus it's very hard for mature age workers to get an apprenticeship (due to costs to employers) unless an employer is specifically looking for a mature age worker with more life skills than a 17 year old kid that costs 30-40% less in wages. Should have made up my mind sooner about what I wanted to do for a career.

Not at all different in the states.people unable to get employment because of age / health insurance. Younger are cheaper..been that way here for a long long time.

Sounds like it would've been a nice slack job though. What was the position employee relations?
almost as off-topic -
I put a dehumidifier in my grow a couple years ago. It took a lot of shopping around trying to find one that was low wattage enough and had an auto restart function in case the power went out, and so I could run it on a timer.
So about two weeks ago I got a reply from a company (Sears) to one of my questions asking for specific info on one of their dehumidifiers.
Roughly 26 months later...
made me laugh

I'm glad I'm retired. I worked almost 30 years climbing poles and putting up cable for a phone company. Started with a degree in Elementary Ed - couldn't get a job - ended up at the phone company, acquired a master's degree in adult education, 2 certificates in heavy equipment operations and excavation. The best offer I got in retirement was to teach a CDL class at a local community college.
My wife is the master of finding new jobs -- she started about 15 years ago -- about 30, 000 a year, kept on applying for jobs, 100's of jobs till the next came along -- I think maybe 6 companies later she is close to 70,000 and the easiest job she ever had.
So there is always hope and always just around the corner, but sometimes you just need to keep up the hope and keep trying.
