    My Girls! (one's a doctor!)

I am an avid but self-educated gardener, and was looking for a new challenge. I should have just waited for summer to get here, as gardening in the PNW this year is a disaster and I'm about to throw the towel in on the bee balm. My god, the rain. Even for us, a few miles from Canada - this is a lot of effing rain - and perhaps the biggest disappointment I've ever had in the gardening department, except that one Sept about 25 yrs ago when I lost all my damn tomatoes. In the rain.

    Inside, however, things are better.
My girls began life on the kitchen windowsill in dollar-store seedling trays in April. I have been collecting seed for a few years - since I started using canna for MS in 2016- and as a homegrown scientist, I labeled every seed I found, and when I found it - even the brand. I only planted two and two is what I got, one would have been a miracle. Since they were in Miracle Gro. And the windowsill was like 60F. I transplanted from plug to 1L containers (also MG, since I didn't have a clue yet) and then into the 5 gallon pots they are in now at the end of May. Everything took shape around the plants - tent, lights, fans, food, soil...all of it. Once the tent was up and the first light got here, they went into the tent and enjoyed 18/6 while they adjusted to a life of confinement and shiny walls. A week later, they flipped to 12/12.
Still didn't know what I'd get...
    And then they were girls
The left is Crop Doctor, a 1:1 cbd plant and the other is a hybrid that the seed was on the tray (I have 2 sons who pretty much don't pay attention to what comes from where) but we don't know what it came out of. Maybe an Irene Apricot. Who knows? They were seeds and they grew.
Before the final move, I learned about the problem about Mir Gro and the nitrogen showing up later when I don't want it, so I knocked as much of the dirt out of the roots as I could when they went into the last containers. I was gentle and they are thriving. I haven't been giving them much of the FF Grow Big, hoping they would deplete the nitrogen already in the soil. They were transplanted to G&B organic soil, which drains super-awesome!
    .
A friend who had a medical grow before WA legalized has been trying to help me, but I'm incorrigible. I went insane with the topping without consulting her, which is why they are branched so crazy, lol.
" I've been topping them like you said. How do they look?"
"OMG, WOMAN! STOP TOUCHING THEM!" (Lol jb4point0 - I really felt your pain...)
50 branches where there should only be 8, but by gum, they are trained so viciously, they are growing flat. I just kept pulling them to the outside. Or up. Or sideways.
No darn idea what to expect or when, so this is a super-cool (and super-expensive, lol) experiment! I don't even know what a cannabis plant looks like when it has flowers on it and there may or may not have been a pollen-sac or 2 which I ripped out of there, but none the worse-for-wear so far. Could have been me overreacting to girl parts, lol.
The ladies will be ready when they are, and not a moment sooner.

Anyhow, I'm learning everything I can from this site, side to side and top to bottom, and from all of you. I'm glad to be on this journey with y'all.
    Thank you <3

Beautiful girls! Sorry to hear about your MS, my grandpa was diagnosed 26 years ago and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone.

You’re amazing. 😂😂😂. I actually forgot when I hung my light from the ceiling, it fell out and crushed 3 of my 5 now!!!! My first grow has been a learning experience! Thanks for the share for sure. I love your attitude and encouragement.

I'm a lucky guy I guess, I'm married to a wonderful woman that is a mere 36 HOURS younger than me. She supports everything I do, hence why I'm virtually retired at 35 and spend all day with my kids.

        You're doing it right
I don't know how to do it right so I garden, make art and have cats instead. I tried it a couple of times, had awesome boys - 24 and 29 now - and now I am happy to just tend the stuff that needs me.

Your plants look fabulous - great color. Good write up. We're almost neighbors - I live 3 miles north of the border - Abbotsford.

SWEET! I thought so. I commuted to and from Granville St via Langley, from Maple Falls and Bham - on the weekends - for years. Attended an ambush wedding in an Abby pub 18 months ago, lol. Most recently hanged at the Heritage Grill in New West - before contagion came. I did indie rock radio. You folks make a lot of great music!

I'm way down the rode from you LOL but having the same issues with my outdoor gardens. I am so glad to have learned about indoor growing this has really saved us a small fortune over the last 4yrs i been doing it. Planned on shutting it down and just doing outdoor but heck no Nature's Goddess had other ideas guess all the heat is going a different direction this year. I got partial sunny skies today mid 80's we'll see how long this will last.

Sadly, I fall prey to my plants. They are like sirens in the ocean calling you in. I go to water them and come out 6 1/2 hours later. Wtf happened? What year is it? I believe one night I married one of my girls. Thank God she didn't want a prenup. 😇🤣

I always try to read as fast as possible when encountered with long posts, but I found myself sad when I read the last sentence because I enjoyed every word so much. So beautifully well written. Please keep sharing. We need to improve the storytelling in this place. Didn’t even looked at the plants. If you have a question I’d be glad to help

Awww, shucks, thank you for the kind words. I like to write, and social media is gross. This seems like a good place. We have a common goal. Growing great pot. Being better farmers. I read all of your posts, and have been mostly reading, and commenting a little. Mostly learning. Again, thank you for the warm welcome into your community.
Last summer's hobby: "real" bread. Right down to fancy baskets and nursing two separate starters out of thin air and raisin water, lol. I baked so much bread, one kid asked what I was doing with it. "Giving it to the garbage man". It was awful. I burned up a new Kitchenaid mixer in my pursuit of perfection (thank gawd for Costco, lol) I went through endless bags of flour. Some of it was edible but none of it was really that great. Some of it wouldn't take on any soup, even after prolonged soaking, lol. The kitchen floor was like the beach with no water - cornmeal.

The offspring are super thankful that I have been distracted from bread.

"This is so cool, Mom! Now you can garden 24/7!"
They know if I'm gardening, I'm not making any effing bread, lolol

SoOrbudgal This weather, omg. I'm watching my outdoor garden get destroyed and helpless to stop it. Fingers crossed the perennials survive the trip on the ark. My new cloning skills might come in handy!
Nothing is really far away. I've been willing to drive to Modesto for an In n Out burger for years. That was before I discovered pot, lol. I don't know where my bar is set for procuring supplies for my new all-consuming passion.

I’m seriously considering moving up to BC or somewhere. Currently I’m in uhhhh the Midwest and I’m starting to hate the US.

Oh gross. I only fly over the Midwest, lol. Almost got stuck in Alabama at the beginning of the Covid...a place I didn't want to go even before the Thrax. Of all the places my dad could have chosen to spend the rest of his life, he picked Alabama. I moved from S.Ca to PNW 30+ yrs ago. Only went back for Disneyland, the beach and In n Out burgers, lol.

Or the American Southwest. Whatever ya want. Imagine one of those square-ish states out here.
