I am an avid but self-educated gardener, and was looking for a new challenge. I should have just waited for summer to get here, as gardening in the PNW this year is a disaster and I'm about to throw the towel in on the bee balm. My god, the rain. Even for us, a few miles from Canada - this is a lot of effing rain - and perhaps the biggest disappointment I've ever had in the gardening department, except that one Sept about 25 yrs ago when I lost all my damn tomatoes. In the rain.
Inside, however, things are better.
My girls began life on the kitchen windowsill in dollar-store seedling trays in April. I have been collecting seed for a few years - since I started using canna for MS in 2016- and as a homegrown scientist, I labeled every seed I found, and when I found it - even the brand. I only planted two and two is what I got, one would have been a miracle. Since they were in Miracle Gro. And the windowsill was like 60F. I transplanted from plug to 1L containers (also MG, since I didn't have a clue yet) and then into the 5 gallon pots they are in now at the end of May. Everything took shape around the plants - tent, lights, fans, food, soil...all of it. Once the tent was up and the first light got here, they went into the tent and enjoyed 18/6 while they adjusted to a life of confinement and shiny walls. A week later, they flipped to 12/12.
Still didn't know what I'd get...
And then they were girls
The left is Crop Doctor, a 1:1 cbd plant and the other is a hybrid that the seed was on the tray (I have 2 sons who pretty much don't pay attention to what comes from where) but we don't know what it came out of. Maybe an Irene Apricot. Who knows? They were seeds and they grew.
Before the final move, I learned about the problem about Mir Gro and the nitrogen showing up later when I don't want it, so I knocked as much of the dirt out of the roots as I could when they went into the last containers. I was gentle and they are thriving. I haven't been giving them much of the FF Grow Big, hoping they would deplete the nitrogen already in the soil. They were transplanted to G&B organic soil, which drains super-awesome!
.
A friend who had a medical grow before WA legalized has been trying to help me, but I'm incorrigible. I went insane with the topping without consulting her, which is why they are branched so crazy, lol.
" I've been topping them like you said. How do they look?"
"OMG, WOMAN! STOP TOUCHING THEM!" (Lol jb4point0 - I really felt your pain...)
50 branches where there should only be 8, but by gum, they are trained so viciously, they are growing flat. I just kept pulling them to the outside. Or up. Or sideways.
No darn idea what to expect or when, so this is a super-cool (and super-expensive, lol) experiment! I don't even know what a cannabis plant looks like when it has flowers on it and there may or may not have been a pollen-sac or 2 which I ripped out of there, but none the worse-for-wear so far. Could have been me overreacting to girl parts, lol.
The ladies will be ready when they are, and not a moment sooner.
Anyhow, I'm learning everything I can from this site, side to side and top to bottom, and from all of you. I'm glad to be on this journey with y'all.
Thank you <3
