    Medical strains for anxiety

Ok, need ya'lls advise. I want to grow a strain that combats my wife's anxiety. What I have now (commercial) just makes it worse. I'm currently growing AK47, still 3 Mos till harvest. Also have G13 haze , white widow and skunk 1 seeds that I could grow next but I want to grow a strain that will really help her. I am more of a recreational user, and I am sceptical that there is any that won't make anxiety worse.
Anyway my only limitations (if it is) is that I will only order from Seedsman, I like the company and gotta support our local Rep Green75
Also for hydro which will get me the most finished product autos or photo plants. Thanks

Btw, I looked at the strains Seedsman has listed for anxiety but I am hoping for some personal recommendations. The wife's anxiety is pretty severe.

I know you want personal experience, which I don't have yet. Bought myself a few strains but haven't grown yet. Since you've already done your research I guess you discovered that she needs a lower THC and higher CBD. One I that bought when I used calming as one of the parameters was Haze Auto CBD from Diadem.

Hope you can get some actually experience users to answers.

Joker, I utilize cannabis, in part, to moderate anxiety. I have found that most of the heavy indicas work pretty good. My favorite of all time was/is black russian although granddaddy purple is also a good one for me. I imagine that seedsman has a good selection of indicas old and new. Good luck !!!!

I smoke to control anxiety as well. Right now I'm smoking sone grand daddy I recently grew with cfl and let me tell you it's wonderfull. After smoking I feel sooooo calmed that I found pleasure breathing deeply. Just like joker said. Those high THC comercial so popular strains just don't get you there

Yay 9 finger !, very good to hear that GDP works so well for you, me too. I used to have most of my anxiety issues at night sleeping but these indica strains really help me sleep better. Dont know what I would do without them., Im headed for some Dr Who tincture right now !😃

I know you're an experience grower, but if you let some your buds over ripen a bit, it lessens that anxiety / paranoia.

BTW, this information is a proven myth as first put out many years ago by Neil Young. Chewing ,or for some just smelling, peppercorns will take away the paranoia and anxiety.
Sorry, was a myth that has been proven to be fact.

For anxiety, you need to get off of Sativa and get some Indica. I highly recommend Purple Kush. Or you can let the Sativa you have now flower into the Amber Trichomes. It will help her considerably.

Good advice King. So many strains now are a hybrid of both.

Are granddaddy purple and purple kush similar? I suppose they are. I've been itching to buy more seeds, don't really need them. Will add that to my wish list.

I think all the Kush strains are pretty similar.

Dont know anything about PK myself. Do appreciate the advice here about later harvest, which would make those sativas more useful.

BC Seedking out of Canada. Got them twice, never had a problem. They also give free seeds. The same strain that you bought. Last time I ordered 10 PK females and got 7 free PK females. Stealth shipping.

AK-47 is an excellent plant to grow and smoke, been growing it for more than a year. Love it !! But is definately not good for anxiety. Personal experience only, take how you like. Accupulca Gold will ease the anxieties that beset some us more than others. Grow in peace !!

Joker-I will give you my experience. I have been dealing with severe anxiety since my early twenties. There was a year in my life that I went outside maybe six times. It has been a ride and I have great empathy for your wife and you trying to find some treatments. The shit they gave me from doctors either turned me into a zombie or I had really bad reactions, so they can keep their chemical crap. I have found relaxation exercises to be the best short term defense, but takes years to develop. I am in my mid fifties and this is still my main health issue.

Three years ago, I decided to investigate if cannabis could help me be more stable and happy. I found that it certainly did, but not completely. I have found, like the advice you have gotten, that Indica dominate strains work best. Also, I have found that letting the tricomes go a little amber produces a more relaxing high. My problem is that I get used to a strain quickly and it is less effective for me so I try to grow as many different strains as possible. I have found that Kush strains and even spefically Afghan Kush work well for me. I look for strains closer to landrace as possible. I like Master Kush and Northern Lights, but there are other hybrids that have worked too. I am constantly hunting for the "perfect" strain and having fun trying to grow it.

Here is another thing I have discovered that helps is to vape! I got a vaporizer that you can control temperatures and found a setting that will literally melt anxiety from the top of your head down. I use it when I need to go deal with the public and combust when I am staying home. Am I cured? No, but I am much happier and my wife thinks I am a much better person to be with, plus I am a "productive" person in society.

My advice is to go to Leafly and look up strains for anxiety and read reviews on them with your wife. If she is not a regular consumer that may be an initial problem too. It took me at least a month of regular smoking to reduce the natural paranoia from smoking the powerful strains available today. Be patient, it might take time to find what works but don't give up. I believe that cannabis has helped me achieve a balance in my life. Sorry to ramble but this hit home and thought my experience may help. I wish you and your wife the best in your quest.

wow, thumbless, that is SUCH good information, and thank you so much for sharing--anxiety can wreck your life and those that haven't dealt with it don't really get that. all the best to you.

No problem sharing. I think many of us suffer from some sort of anxiety and are searching for a solution to calm us down at times. It can really be debilitating.

Thanks for sharing thumbless. It's good to hear that i'm not alone. I have been on medication for bi-polar for 15 years and recently have been going through a medication change. I hate it. Getting off Paxil is literally the worst withdrawals i have ever had (and i've had plenty). I hope to get off all meds and manage through cannabis sometime. It's a process...But thanks for your insight!

Thank you Thumbless Bastard for sharing your experience, I know from what I have seen my wife go thru that anxiety can really make life tough in a way that people that don't have it cannot understand.

No problem Joker. A couple more things that really helped was exercise and cleaning up my diet. You just have to look at it as a long term plan and chip away at it. Eventually, it becomes much more manageable. I feel for you two.

HI TO ALL ON THIS THREAD and to JOKER: Yes, I have dealt with anxiety all my life as well. Now it's funny because sativa works really well for me: it lifts me up. I think that cannabis interacts differently with each person's chemistry and emotional frame of mind, so I can only share my own experience.

I see cannabis as therapeutic re: anxiety on various levels. It helps me to "go through" anxiety and walk out the other side; it helps me to see that anxiety is an illusion: it is a reaction in the present to a past long gone. I have come to see it, at the age of 63, as a form of PTSD that's been with me since childhood due to family shit. And similar to combat veterans or other sufferers of PTSD, certain events in my present life will trigger past reactions to stuff that went on when I was a child. I've come to recognize that I REACT AS IF I WERE 6 YEARS OLD AGAIN: but weed has helped me incredibly to recognize that today is today--not 57 years ago. That's what I mean by perceiving anxiety as an illusion. Now I know that anxiety is real--don't get me wrong. When one is in it, it's awful.

What I work on is "bursting the bubble" of anxiety to get back into my entire present life circumstance and release the reaction to events from 50-some years ago.

One final word: sometimes when I get reeeeeeeeeallly high, I imagine that I'm getting ready to surf a huge wave: it's exhilirating, a little scarey, but I can do this, just go up to the top of the wave, let go and surf on down into the full bloom of the high. As a friend said to me a long time ago, sometimes ya gotta get on the bed and embrace that anxiety: that's the "go through" part, as is surfing the big wave...

So glad to know that we on this forum understand each other...

I would like to thank everyone for putting there input in. I suffer from bi-polar with social anxiety and depression being my main issues. I agree that indica's are good for anxiety, but in my experience not so good for depression. Sativa's on the other hand are good for depression, but can sometimes make my anxiety worse. I will admit that the brunt of my issues are due to negative thinking (ie people are going to laugh at you, you're ugly, no one likes you, you're worthless ect) which no drug (or plant) can fix. Weed has lessened the severity of these feelings and kinda gets me through without me doing something stupid like slip back into cocaine or painkillers which changed me as a person. Maybe one day i will learn to love myself but until then im just trying to keep myself from doing something stupid.

TL;DR Im crazy, but weed makes me less crazy.

Thank you@alltatup. I have done years of therapy to figure out where i got these ideas from because i grew up in a very supportive environment. Most of it comes from my own thoughts! The good news is i dont believe it most of the time but sometimes i do and i tend to disappear for a bit. But this isn't a mental health thread so i'll shut up...

I'm in the same boat with you guys, dealing more with depression and hopelessness than anxiety or panic. I'm sure there are more similarities than differences between the depression and anxiety, I'm a little new to taking depression seriously, and looking for ways to keep big pharma's hooks off of me (assholes).

I'm also pretty compulsive, so when I smoke indicas heavily, it makes me dumb and lazy (like the Afroman video) and I can stay in that zone for years (no really, years. I get high, I feel great, I have great ideas, but I can't get any of them done) Eventually, I get depressed from all the shit piled high around me.

The last time I quit smoking weed was after I had a wood working business for 4 years, and it went NO WHERE because I got high instead of making and selling wooden things. If only I could find the secret recipe for selling these incredible picture frames (they really were incredible). I finally figured out that it was couch lock. I'm such a dumb ass.

So, I agree, sativas and sativa dominant hybrids work best for me. Jack Herer, JillyBean, and Tangerine Sour Berry have been my favorites. I've tried smoking and vaping a few CBD strains, what's funny is when I go through those motions, but then I'm not high, I don't understand and it makes me think it's not doing any thing, but I do feel better, weird. I did NOT like Matanuska Thunder Fuck-made my heart pound.

I do enjoy a little indica as a sleep aid. Blackberry kush is nice. And strains that smell of lavender are supposed to be great for anxiety.

I'm still in the early stage of figuring out how to self medicate with pot, Tika has a great thread going on about tinctures. I'm going to try that. I also like to mix cannabutter in to some hot milk or tea. My plants have to hurry up and GROW!

The scientific literature regarding cannabis and depression suggest that lower doses of THC are helpful, high doses worsen depression. If you do some reading about entourage effects and terpene profiles, strains that smell of lemon, pine, and mint seem to be most helpful for depression.

Hey guys, I feel a lot better knowing that you're here too. I've been blessed by everyone's openness and supportive community.
