The Social Corner: Busy These Days?a

Good Morning Friends... you guys have been a powerful source of mental restoration for me. I ve been able to read up on several things all of us have interests in or are currently doing, continue expanding my knowledge of a great subject and go outside and get a few things wrapped up. I thought I might mention a few things that have re-surged from my previous life, so to speak.

i live on a small 17acre parcel in the north, raised 5 kids with my wife who I now know 45 years. This wild overgrown fiefdom has been neglected to a point where there are still trees that have fallen out in the woods just from age, storms or rot....Life gets in the way and as a musician, some great things come along occasionally and some don’t.

Last year my small garden tractor ( you’ll NEVER guess what brand it is) power take off unit broke down with some bad drive components so I’ve spent 3 days repairing this. I need to get out in the woods and cut some stuff up and drag it back to the splitter. I mounted a few more outdoor cameras to keep an eye on the dogs when I hear a commotion going on. It took us 22 years to get cable tv once the entire town had it 35 years ago. Their approach was, we can get 20 customers with a 1/2 mile of wire, with you, we can get 1 customer more with almost 1 mile of cable. Thing is, once we got it...it was ridiculously high speed so connectivity works . The iPad just clicks over to a series of thumbnails and I can see who’s starting a problem. Like the casinos

‘’having restored cars an motorcycles for a few decades I had bought a welder 30 yrs ago, never really got it down well until a few years ago but in the last few months, I have been a metal fabrication shop. My next smoker will be a smaller version of a gravity feed cabinet I made 5 yrs ago. That one weighed over 700 lbs and even on wheels, I couldn’t move it more than a few feet. That one looked like a giant refrigerator.

my next project needs to be pulling out that old roto-tiller and get that engine running. Garden season is approaching faster and having fresh vegetables this summer will be a priority. I hope this little insight have created a diversion the the events of the last weeks... now excuse me while I watch the same re-play of last nights news, over and over and over again. Then, I get to watch ANY Elizabeth Taylor movies my wife loves...over and over and over

Never liked yard work so I live in a triplex in a gated community, I have a yard on three sides and a patio out back. They have crews that do the yards and I put out about 3 flats of begonias in the planters on the wall every spring. The rest of my gardening is in my garage. I started growing out of necessity but it turned into a hobby and a passion. "Be careful what you're dreaming soon the dream will be dreaming you" 25 years in this place. Love hearing from all you great growers around the world.

Good one Farmall - 17 acres ain't small - Massey Ferguson is my guess for your tractor. Got a new way to watch the news these days - coffee in hand, GWE on the tablet, dehumidifier running in the background so loud I can't hear what they are talking about on the news.

Today is a spring day of rain, wind and sunshine in the upper 50s f. Real nice actually. I helped clean the fallen branches piled up for a burn in the wooded area, we love a good bonfire then I transplanted some burning bush (those leaf red bush in the fall ) these were shoots I been nursing from last spring put them in some bare spots around the fences. Hubby rode the riding mower through the rain LOL he can't let the grass grow 2" and me and the dogs and kitties all made supper. Chicken soup for our soul and grilled cheese sammies. Beautiful time of year here, so glad to have a hippie greenhouse to play in.

Don’t watch a ton of tv but I want to meet the people who program the movies on so called premium channels and give them a kick in the butt... such crap I have never seen or want too.

i also need to meet the “ engineers “ who designed the heater coil placement and a few other parts In my older truck and make them change it out to be sure they thought that was a good idea....idiots! A $30.00 part and 11 hours to pull it out

OK, rant is over for now

Farmall, really enjoyed this story farmall just wanted to comment you have cable! wow. Nearest gas station is 15 minutes away and the nearest town 30 . Most people have a hard time believing there is a place in the world that cell phones don't pick up. yeah that's where I live. Been here since 1984 with my wife, raised 2 incredible girls who have been more mature than us since they were about 7. Yeah the power goes out Ann is not back on in the next 3 minutes you can count on 24 hours at the least. Man I had to walk to school barefoot in the snow uphill both ways.
Surprising they have finally got a decent Internet connection.
A nice distraction , times are changing. I should get back to the farm

FarmerJoe I’ll only say that we must have been neighbors at some point in time because we lived there too. It was 1970’s and McDonalds was a monthly treat..32 miles away. Snow was constant and it was the coldest spot in the nation beating out Gunnison Colorado and International Falls, Minnesota....Where I live now , if power is out, as you said... more than 3-4 minutes = 8-24 hours. It isn’t for everyone... I know that now at this age, it ain’t for me either

Biggest mistake I ever made was getting rid of my Yanmar 2210 Diesel, four wheel drive, could pull anything I hooked it up to (SLOOOOWLY) but it never broke. Downsized considerable over the last couple of years and sold it to a friend of mine. Had a bucket on the front until one of my sons decided to build a race track... long story.

I have a small place too, no idea what acreage, but its 0.2 mile by 0.25 mile, 4 homes, 2 shops a pond a creek, 4 wells rocks the size of rooms on part of it. I had it cleared when i was a teen, by hand with an ax, it grew back while I was out and about. I was born here, I have watched the cities grow toward me, and avoid my community.
I was plowing the garden, not been done in years and busted a mud chain on the sears st16 tractor. Got it back inside, and went after the IH cub cadet 129 that overheated earlier, it was in the 90s, I was over heating too. I have several of these old girls, they will pull the new shit into!
Many wild things to eat here too, like the wild blackberries well flower soon followed by the big ones. I'll have to get out for walk about with the camera.

                    Good evening Friends.

We are not quarantained in my country. But since I got a sore throat ive been home from work for about a week. Feeling great beside form the cough but wont risk to infect someone if its that virus that got to me. Got up to alot of small tasks Ive neglected

Cleaned out the porch and made it ready for summer. Also sorted and cleaned all the pots for the herbs and such I plant during spring (witch is soon I hope). Also cleaned out alt the debrie and set up new shelfes in my new home workshop. Only thing left there is to get a biig piece of wood for a workbench. And some more tools. Cant have to many you know.

Started some plants I will transplant outside later. Chili, tomatoes and flowers. Also a big poppy, I will put that one in the grow room late and see what happens. Germinated a bunch of bagseed aswell and some freebies I got from the seed company. They will have to survive outdoors once its warmer.

Also ordered some tobacco seeds and I will dihg out a small patch for them to grow. Got some of Ed Rosenthals books and Ive got to read them aswell now. Good but sometimes very technical.

Car broke down the other day so im pretty much stuck out here on the countryside during the days when the Mrs. are at work with the other car. Its quite peaceful.

Now I might just paint that bench Ive been thinking to paint the last 2 years....

                    Stay safe!

Really jealous of the tractors! I'm still saving pennies for a good deal on a 25hp when I see the right one for sale. Me and my wife just moved onto 2 acres of a brand new neighborhood. I live in an illegal state so everything has to stay under the radar. This was the first time I bought a new place and there's a 1000 little things I never thought of that had to be taken care of. This year I'm finishing the basement and putting in a raised bed garden. Been collecting thrown out pallets to re-purpose for raised beds.

I tried starting some vegetable seeds in the grow tent along with the girls. The tomatoes and lettuce like it, I think the lights were too strong and killed all the beet, pepper, and bean seedlings. I'm going to try them again under some weaker lights. This growing thing is addictive and is rapidly flying out of control but it's keeping me sane as well. Right now in the tent I have 1 photo period GDP that is 4 months old, 1 month in flower. The rest are autos that just flowered yesterday. I have 1 Northern Lights, 1 Gorilla Glue, 2 Strawberry Cheesecake, 1 Lemon Haze, and 1 Alaskan Purple. Hopefully I'll have enough when everyone's chopped to get me through the summer, although since this stuff started my wife has been indulging. I added a picture of the Strawberry Cheesecake that I didn't top (I topped 1 and left 1 alone as an experiment) just because I think she's so pretty.

Right now just watching the rain clouds come in across the river and listening to the thunder booming off the bluffs and getting ready to go downstairs and tend to the girls.

                    Stay safe and stay healthy.

FunkyButtLovin - Did you do any topping or training on the SC? I’d be very interested to hear what you think about the AP. What kind of yield did you get from it if you don’t mind? TIA!

I have grown the SC a few different ways and my favorite has been the one I just tied down and spread out. It only gave me 29 grams but there was no larf and the plant stayed about 10.5" tall. The AP was just cut down, I'll try to remember to weigh it in a couple of weeks. It didn't produce a lot for me but that's mostly my fault. It did take every issue along the way in stride, this is a tough variety that I think should be considered great for beginners like White Widow or Northern Lights.

I have so many projects I need to work on around the yard. I wish I had time! I have a Pecan/Walnut orchard in my front yard that really needs some clean up. Being considered an "essential" business is not letting me get the Honey-Do-List done. Spent today in an excavator, watching couple of my guys down in a ditch repairing a sewer line. Tomorrow is a water main repair, not sure what the office has my other guys doin. I need some damn time! I have had to hire a general contractor (pisses me off) to build my new house (I will do the plumbing/heating), then take my old house down. I would general it myself, but no time to deal with it. I guess it's fiscally smart to let them do it anyway, I can make more working than I will pay them to general the job. We have slowed down a bit tho, usually booked 4-6 days in advance for service work, right now it's only 2 days.
But my employees are pretty happy to be working through this shit. Beats the alternative, wife and I had decided to let them stay home for the duration of the shut down with full pay. Kinda glad we didn't have to do that, but we were more than willing!
