    Cannabis seedling bending?

Hi all. First time attempting to grow cannabis. I've noticed that at night, my seedling seems to bend. In the morning, the seedling is straight again. This has happened the last two nights, my seedling is 4 days old. Pictures attached. It doesn't seem to be dying or anything, in fact it's green and healthy. I'm growing outside on a windowsill if that makes a difference. Any advice? Thanks!

Might be a temperature thing. Cool air comes down the window at night and the seeding "hunkers down" to protect itself from exposure. Try moving to a warmer spot at night. Cant hurt to try.

Thanks for your reply. The climate I'm in is about, say, 50 degrees Fahrenheit at night. I'm not so sure it's a heat issue, but I'm only a beginner, so what do I know? I've been told that the plant is trying to find light so it needs to bend to find a light source. I will try to leave it outside, if I see any noticable changes I'll move it inside. But just to clarify -- a bending seedling isn't harmful to the plant, is it?

Rotate the seedling 180 deg. and see if it straightens back up. Fifty deg. is TOO cool for it to grow well.

50 degrees is pretty cold for seedlings. You need to keep them in the 75-80 degrees range. The bending may be from the seedlings searching for a light source.

Try putting a clear plastic cup over it at nite put a few holes in it for venting.this may stop the bending.luck

Thanks for the replies everyone, I don't have a problem taking it inside at night. However I don't have grow lights, I've been keeping it on the windowsill for the past few days. Is it possible to keep it inside, in the dark, without lights? The temperature is quite warm.

The plant will survive a dark period; prolly most folks on here use an 18 hours light, 6 hours dark schedule during vegetation. At some point, you're going to have to provide more light than it can get on a windowsill--especially in winter. If you see it grow all tall and gangly, it's telling you it needs more light.

Thanks. I'll keep it under a light for a bit, just to see if it straightens up (I'm curious). And yes I'm aware that I need more light in the future, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it... Hope it all goes well with the seedling. First time growing cannabis so of course I'm nervous.

I'll do my best rockman! Have you got any idea how long it should be under light, per day? I'd say it's had about 12 hours of light already, but I'm not sure.... As I said, I'm very inexperienced when it comes to cannabis growing.

My autos are always put on 24 hours light but that's just me.

But will it hurt them to leave them under too much light? I'm not sure how the cycle works yet.

Just go over to GWE and read about the vegetation phase: like I said, 18 on 6 off is pretty normal for veg.

Oh dear a single digit post count!!Welcome to the other side, grass is colorful and smelly on this side

My fellow newb (im just wait...uhm....30 somewhat days into veg of my first indoor grow) your temps at night are at "Will cause stunned plants" and "Growth might seem to slow down significantly" level! most people say 59F is good i will totally up that to 64F for fast growth and a cozy environment !

What strain is this lil baby? Photoperiod or Autoflowering? and what medium are you using? Do you have meters? (Ph,Ec)

Most people will stick to 18 hours of light and 6 hours of dark during veg state for Photoperiod Plants and 24 hours of light - 0 hours of dark for autoflowers since they will flower in their time no matter what!

Too much light for a seedling is about 8 inches away from a 400w MH bulb, which i don't think you have provided!!

If by too much you mean hours and not intensity then you are in for a surprise as cannabis plants in veg state will take up ALL the light possible,it's the flip to flowering TIME CYCLE that causes the plant to flower and grow buds (or balls if it's a dude).

The 12 hours of light you mentioned on a daily basis will cause the plant to start flowering prematurely and lead to something that has become a tact for people that grow 10 or more plants at a time using the method called SoG! 12/12 from seedling will make you loose yield if you don't know your ABC's instead of assist in any way!

You will need to provide a minimum of 13 hours+ of light to avoid flowering early and keep the temps between 59F(lowest night temp) and 80F (highest temp at day) making sure your max difference from night to day is equal to or less than 30F,again i note, the DIFFERENCE between the two temps!

Have you read GWE's Begginer Guide ? It has provided me with what i mostly used in the start (Ofc the forum members have provided tons of awesome information along the way)

Worry not matie,we will be here on your every step, just avoid meeting for a couple weeks till you get branches,he will teach you the way of the blade!!!

It's completely normal for plants to droop at night. But as said already 50 is getting pretty cold, especially for a seedling.

Nartak, I don't know what strain it is. Also, I'm not very interested in growing in order to smoke, later. I'm trying to grow for personal use and just for decoration mostly, probably in a later stage in my life I will grow professionally. Right now I can't, no budget.

If you're not growing to smoke what personal use (if i may) are growing for...1 plant will barely get you your months oil if thats what you want... its a 10 to 1 making oil at the best...

Budget is not SO important natan,CFLS are cheap and low energy cost and will be better than sunlight due to hours of lighting...couple of them should do the trick for just one plant!

Nartak -- The problem is I live at home with my parents, I don't have a place of my own and I'm in an apartment. No space for lights/fancy equipment. I just want to see how it is with one plant, so I can master growing cannabis before I move out and then hopefully I can really get started.
