I don't use coco coir, but this from the GWE glossary might be of interest to you. Per NebulaHaze " Coco coir (also coco)

Coco coir is an easy-to-use, hard-to-mess-up, super-forgiving grow medium that’s a great place to start for new growers. Coco coir is primarily made up of coconut husks, so it’s easy to use in addition to being renewable and thus, better for the environment. However, growing with coco coir necessitates the use of perlite to increase drainage. Perlite isn’t renewable, so by extension, coco coir loses renewable status, too."

Ive been using coco mixed with perlite for a few years I don't re-use it but if I was and I have before I would remove as much roots as I can then wash the coco not so much to flush it but more to wash and flush away the dust from it breaking down during the grow this dust builds up and gets compacted

This is exactly what I do. I usually remove the root ball and discard roots and all coco that stays attached to the roots. On my 4th grow using this method but my coco is compacting now. Will start fresh after this one. Thanks everyone!

Thanks for the question and the info -- first coco grow; switched partly because of the reuseability factor. I'm a cheapskate on stuff like that!

See above. I grow with coco and perlite because it is so forgiving and you almost can not over water. and it's cheap.
