    no second transplant

I have been filling 5 gal fabric pots 1/2 way up for my seedlings right after they come out of solo cups.
My Question is ...As the plant grows can i simply raise the sides and add more soil.
This of course would cover the coty leaves and likely the next set of single leaves.
Then hopefully the plant would grow enough that the next set of leaves would stay above the soil and my plant would have 5 gals of soil to spread its roots.
This could save the stress of one transplant.

    ANY THOUGHTS??

    thanks as always

Take the leaf off before covering, I cover up to 6 limbs, they can and do grow roots, have fun!
Do let the "coty leaves" fall off first,,, but you can cover to them.

Roots like to grow downward. I’m not an expert on this subject, but my thoughts are that a second transplant would be more beneficial than just filling in the sides to make a 5 gal. Container.

I am a fan of filling the container up to start with less messing around with disturbing growth the better. It your case I would transplant now into full container of soil.

Well I raised the sides, cut off 1 set of leaves, added 2" of soil/perlite...not a sign of stress afterwards. I will likely do this again as the plants grow. Right now the next set of leaves are close to soil line.
Great results so far. Good experiment. Thanks for the replies. You are wise Rwise.
