    HELP! Curling drying leaves

    Hello all.

I have a plant in week 8.5 of flower. I have been monitoring trichomes using a jewellers loop because the buds look ready to go. They almost look like I could pull a bud off and smoke it. Obviously that’s not the case, but visually they do. Especially under the grow lights. None of the trichomes are amber on the actual buds but they are getting tall and cloudy. I’m a bit concerned about the dry and curling leaves all over the plant as well. the sugar leaves look good but nearly all the fan leaves are looking somewhat necrotic.

Am I worried for nothing.? Does this look normal for week 8-9 on this Sativa.?

seed found. Either tangerine dream from Sam Rafael or platinum Girl Scout cookies. I’m thinking the former due to how lanky and not bushy it is.

    thanks.

That, my friend Newguy36 is what some call Autumn in your tent. Not only do you have dying yellow leaves, you have pretty purple ones as well. Late in flowering, these things happen. You can knock, not pick, them off or leave them alone. Your end is nigh.

Thanks gingerbread. You are putting my mind at ease. I actually clipped off the blotchy ones about two weeks ago. Stupid on my part from what I read.

Thanks for you help. It looked much worse until I turned the lights off to take the pictures. It doesn’t look purple at all under the grow lights. Just brown and blotchy.

this is normal...check this out...same thing. This plant is mature and completing its lifecycle by beginning to die. It has done what nature intended

I’d like to see it live on for another month and while it will. They will look progressively worse as this is just part of the aging process. Trichomes are well developed and waiting for the amber coloration that should be accompanying them

You would like to see yours live on for another month or mine? Mine sprouted on September 5th so she is over 5 months old already and entering week nine of flowering. I’ve read some Sativa can take 12-14 weeks flower fully but I’m hoping it won’t take that long. She has been in the same 5 gallon fabric pot since October and it’s starting to smell like a wet shoe. Lol

No mine....after a while if you're no longer making progress towards a completely matured bud, you have to take what you have. I just like to shoot for 30-% amber trichs but I have been able to get near 50%on some strains..so I try and see how far it can go. Just be on the lookout for diminishing returns. You’re doing well, if trichomes are fully developed and milky , get ready to harvest

Thank you. It’s my first grow but I tried to do it right.

It is either platinum Girl Scout cookies or tangerine dream. They height and flowering time makes me think it’s Sativa (td) but the smell is more like PGSC. It’s 5 feet tall And not very bushy so I was thinking tangerine dream. I did not too or fim. Just let her do her thing.

Interesting note is that I thought I was growing in soil but it was actually pro mix which I’ve learned is a soilless medium... so she survived off water alone until I bough organic nutes for the flowering phase..

I’m pretty sure I would have had to light this thing on fire to kill it lol.

      Cheers

Hi New, The old shoe smell isn't good. I hope you don't have root rot. Can you describe anything else about the smell? Surely it's not coming from the buds, is it? Like a Cheesy strain?

No. And I really have to get close to smell it. Or I get a woft while in the tent. That smell has been around for a while since I started the organic nutes. I’m using medi one by green planet and the food wreaks. Because I’m using a fabric pot I think it makes it worse . The fabric has soaked and air dryer close to 35 times now. It’s bound to stink a bit. I’m not too worried As I’m close to the end and other than the leaves. Which everyone saying is normal the buds themselves look great and smell incredible.

I haven't had a grow with some sort of musty smell. When you harvest, it'll smell like grass for a while. Not what you might expect.

Also after these are out of the grow bags, flip em inside out get all the matter out of them and wash with alittle detergent and bleach don't need much just hang to dry after.

Some pictures of the trichs under a jewellers lens I attached to my phone. I’m no expert so I was planning on waiting for some amber to appear. how are these looking for those that can tell?

99 percent of the pistils have turned red. Do you disregard that?

          #10
Morning in my experience pistils are the first to curl and turn red/brown then trichs start maturing from clear to cloudy slowly to amber. It can take days. When my plants are at the end of life like yours is and i'm doing this now with 2 of mine. I put them in the dark room for at least 24hrs or longer, I make the decision to stop and chop. Your plant is at that point in my opinion. This late in flower, if your having any ph issues drainage problems time is not on your side to correct. My 2 cents

SoOrbudgal I agree with That thinking. If you’re within days of harvest those techniques won’t do a lot as those are used to control the future of your grow. All the proper chemistry ( not meaning chemicals more like if you meet someone and you get along in almost everything) sets the plant up for normal development within its genetic plan. We use those principal to maximize the genetic potential to end up with a great product. The deviations that occurs from week to week over its growth period sets things up to lose a little bit of that potential genetic maximum.

The life cycle of the plant is made up of the life cycle of its individual parts. The pistils in short, start white, dance around naked to attract pollen, do their thing and if they get some pollen, the bring it to the plant to make seed for reproduction, dry up, turn orange-ish, and continue the life cycle of the strain..

just like us..my wife and I got together to get some pollen ( the dance part is fun) .. I have a few seeds out there that are continuing the strain...one of my females is sensamilla. At this point, we might be at the dry/orange-ish stage😂

Depending on your desired plan for your crop, you can chop or wait for a deeper penetration of amber. My 50% amber buds are labeled with an extra line “ sleep aid”. Watch out though, some amber changes will never get to 50% amber, the plant will just die off.

So the consensus is I should put in the dark for 24 hours then harvest?

my thought is when I cure in mason jars after hang drying it will continue to mature.

all of my fan leaves are now dead and curling.

my light is full spectrum and I have been running both this whole time. Should I give it week I’m the pure red to see if it speeds things up.

counting on your opinion as I want to do this right after over 5 months of tending to this thing.

good new is that the yield looks great for one plant. So thanks for everyone’s help to this point
