Decided to go with it on the out side. I have a cheapo fan and having the filter hooked directly to it definitely eliminates quite a bit of noise , added bonus. My sock will not fit on the inside of my filter, however I have a filter on the tube side in the tent.

Thats how i run my set-up and it works well...is that a 4"plastic housing fan?? I think i have that exact unit...and she a noisy bugger on a good day. When you plan on up-grading, go with a metal body fan and a x-large filter...you wont regret it. I stepped up to a 6" fusion breath variable speed fan with a BIG filter and its like night a day for noise and air exchange. hg
