Farmall oops I meant 13 off and 11 on. So you start with 20 on 4 off then 18 on 6 off then 16 on 8 off then you get to 12/12 and finally 11 on 13 off. The theory behind it is to not stress your plant by jumping from 18/6 to 12/12. Kinda makes sense because in nature time changes little by little. Not my idea I got that from buildasoil.com. Have to admit haven’t done it enough to say it’s a big difference if any just sounds logical to me. What are your thoughts on that?

Cali well, it certainly sounds logical as our daylight does gradually reduce a few minutes each day beyond the equinox. I’ve got to find a source of data on whether or not a controlled indoor environment benefits from this type of switch. Without substantive support, to me, it is another theory but...darn it, there are so many variables to growing anything that it may be a genius breakthrough or another puff of smoke idea. I’d be willing to try it but it sure needs to have some tight controls. Clones, lights etc..

do you have any ideas on the time frame from 20/4 start down to 11/13? My first thoughts would be to divide the veg period into weekly segments and mark each for a time change

I used to drop the time 15 minutes every 3-5 days, about as close as I could get to nature with the timer I had then. What would be interesting is a side by side grow! 1 using each method,,,

It's hard for me, to equate growing in a tent with the natural light cycles-as the sunlight provides an unlimited amount of light energy and indoor grows only provide a fraction (1/3?) of that amount and therefore need to be on longer than the sun for maximum benefit. ie 18/6 and all variations up to 24/0.
There is no stress changing the grow lights from 18/6 to 12/12 or whatever schedule is in vogue.

Once a photo is in darkness for about 2 hrs- it begins to trigger/begin the flowering processes.

Your plant will use what it can for the first phase of photosynthises- lights on-(maxing out at 17.5 hrs) and then enter the second phase of photosynthesises during the dark/rest period (photosythized sugars are mobilized for storage).

That said: I keep lights on 20/4 for auto's even during flower- just to be sure- (FastBuds recommends only 14 hrs of light for Mexican?)
If you followed the outside cycle you would be reducing the light to about 10 hrs a day.

Why do buds get the largest when we reduce the amount of light- either in nature or under grow lights?

It's all bullshit - until you smoke it!

Farmall here is a pic of where that idea comes from. It’s the feeding schedule and it shows how many hours on/off and what weeks.

Hey Cali. Thanks for the printed schedule...@weed pharma ...there is logic in every statement here and I tend to believe we all look for that magic bullet. What makes it so difficult for me is that I can not afford all of the time it takes to check out each possibility and then prove it again.. waiting 4 months for a result and then doing again to see the same end is crazy for us. What part of photosynthesis takes place at night that has such benefits. It’s certainly different than the daylight events. My autos were a complete accident by the seed supplier and they had no choice but 12/12 as the group they lived with were photos. The yield was minimal but acceptable. On the other hand, the type of growing made them a touch desirable
