Topping to second node rather than third

My plants are a little taller than I would like them to be. So I'm wondering if it's a mistake to talk to the second node rather than the third node before manifolding . Does anyone out there have any experience topping below the third mode or about the third mode and what were your results. Advice, comments welcome . Click image for larger version

I'd think the lower you cut the shorter and bushier the plant. The plant won't mind either way. Same strain both?

      Keeping fingers crossed for ya!
Separate those 2 asap!!!! If it's 2 girls you'll most likely have to sacrifice one when separating them. Those roots are tangled together guaranteed.

take a large kitchen knife and cut straight down and across whole pot into medium....like a cake....this will cut roots and allow you to transplant easily....no fear ...will work great!!

Green, I finally get it, it's not your methods that can be scary to the untrained eye it's the description! I just pictured kill bill and her katana slicing those clones, scary shit! 😂 But I totally second your idea, done it a bezillion times at work with those trays of flower plugs. Thanks for the reminder. Slice away friend!

I didn't top my girls, but I started LSTing them when they were still quite short. The difficulties came with removing all the growth below my tops because they are so short. But I was able to do it; I just would wait longer next time so that there is more straight up stem that will be easier to reach. It looks like you have lots of room below the second node...

Top to whatever node you want...break out the blade...

When I top I top to the node that best fits my needs...

Another thing you can do in the quest for a short plant is plan for an additional transplant, going to say a 1-gal pot before your final pot. This allows you to get the mainline node down close to the media surface on that final transplant.

Hey Canyon, welcome aboard and good luck on your grow!!Im a total newb as i always say and i dared to cut my girls down at the 2nd node when only the 4th was just a tiny pimple forming!!So 3 formed nodes i cut down to the 2nd!!Today i cut the fans from the 2nd one also and left the mainline branch (3rd node now with 2 heads) tied down!!Check my pics here
