    Root ball

"Excuse me while I kiss the sky". I apologize in advance for droning on and on but just took a couple of tokes. So I'm cleaning out my basement and finally got around to emptying my fabric pots from last grow. They were autos grown in FFOF and Kindsoil, with added perlite, in 5 gallon fabric pots. The soil was very dry so it was easy to break apart and determine the root balls weren't much bigger than a grapefruit, including the fine (hair") roots. There were some, very little, fine roots that ran out further but nowhere close to the edges or bottom of the fabric pots. Hell, they wouldn't have made it to the edges of 3 gallon fabric pots. They were autos and struggled with some yet to be determine afliction, with a little over an ounce yield each. So my questions is... what could cause root growth to struggle? I have been wondering if root ball temps could be an issue. My grow room temps get into the mid to upper 60's during lights out and fabric pots sit next to fresh air intake so constant breeze across a damp surface makes for a great swamp cooler but maybe not so good for root temps. Would love to hear what you think.

I just used fabric pots for the first time, mine are 20 gallon. I too got a lighter harvest than expected, and heres why (I think) lack of enuf water, as in often enuf, I changed they way I judge when they need water (if the surface is dry they need water). I also think I used way to much calmag (homemade) which stunted their growth/production.
When I dug into the soil, the outer layer (2-3") was bone dry with the roots going to the dry area but not into it.
