    Light problem

How far away to keep 600w hps with open azure wing hood.

    This article should help:

Each type of grow light (CFLs, LEDs, HPS, etc) has a "sweet spot" as far as how far to keep from your plants. Learn what the sweet spot is for your light!

I use a 600 watt, but have a cool tube, I keep the lights at 24", and let them grow into the light about 6", and then raise the lights to 24" again. I don't get any stretch.

        600w open hood I believe is 14-18”.
Air cooled hoods are much closer. I keep mine 8-9” above the canopy. 24” is way too high for flowering.
4x4 600w HID empty for summer
3x3 400w HID with Bruce Banner and Skywalker Kush
2x2 65w Quantum Board LED with 4 mother strains
running all simultaneously for a perpetual harvests.

It's really not. 24" and let them grow into 18". This site even teaches 14" to 25". Doesn't effect my plants at all. Everyone can grow their own way, but to blatantly say it's to high to flower is incorrect.

Oh really? What are your yields looking like at 18”-24” on an cool tube hood?
14” is ideal for an open hood. You are using a glass tube. Glass refracts lumens and you are physically receiving less lumens than an open hood. So you are not comparing apples to apples here.
Sure, plants can live off very low lumens... but they don’t thrive this way. Please look up the inverse square law and I think you might change your mind.
I’ll link you into a chart for the equipment you are actually using here.

Here is a chart for air cooled lights... if you are using air cooled equipment and care about yields that is.

I started off with going as low as I could. I was always dealing with light burn, curled tips, and all that crap. The three in flower on wk 5 now were the recipients of my final issue having light green and bleaching plants. That never looked happy. I raised it to 24, and let them grow to about the 18" mark. Maybe 1 or 2 less, but rarely Now the three in flower have come back as best they could, and the wk 1 flower plants are thriving as well. If the light was to high. The wk 1 flower plants would be stretching like giraffes. In the end, if I'm happy with my plants, and I keep get compliments, I'm happy with what I'm doing. Peace ✌

Agreed. To each is their own. One question, are you using a booster fan or an in-line fan to cool the light? Is all the ducting short and straight runs? Because it sounds more like heat stress you are describing.
When you place your hand 9” below the light... does it feel comfortable? Or hot?

Not sure how to directly reply yet lol sorry. I run a ac Infinity t6 in there With filter, ducting, cool tube, ducting, exhaust pushes air outside tent. Running the cool tube, I would never feel heat on the back of my hand lol Hell half the time, I would be working, and not know I was about to hit the light until bam, my head bangs into the tube Haha. I use passive intake through two bottom flaps I have adjusted to get proper negative pressure. I have a 24" window fan I've hung to blow between the tube and canopy as well. Here's an ok picture I have. I have my filter on rope ratchets, so I can lower it when starting the flowering over from scratch, and keep the filter ducting even with the cool tube, so i don't have two bends in the ducting. What did me in most likely, is everyone typically keeps their lights low as possible, and raise bit by bit. For whatever reason, this wasn't working well for me. I was very hesitant to go 24" since I always went as low as possible. If I ever saw stretch I'd lower, but they'd just steadily keep going nicely. My first grow was 8oz with 3 plants. I'm always open to changing my grow, but since this change, I've not had any issues at all. That makes everyday stress free checking on them for me lmao. Sorry, I didn't mean to ramble on, my bad mate.

No worries. Bottom right, the “ ... “ just hit that then hit comment and start typing away.
So are you dumping the heat into another room or outside?
Most grows I have seen are either sealed with AC as the cooling. (Maybe outside air traveling through the hood then back outside again). Enriched with co2.
Or they use fans to bring outside air into the grow room, then vent outside (or into separate room). No co2 enrichment required.
If you are dumping heat into the same room you are extracting out to, then you are recycling the heat.
Plus, the filter on the same end of the cool tube is not efficiently removing heat either. Try 1 fan for the filter, and one separate fan plus ducting line for the cool tube.
This way you are removing all the heat with out building it up over the 12 hour lights on period.

Toker1, you have a grow journal going on? You're passionate about growing, and I like that. Bit of a know it all dick, but in a funny way. I liked we could go back and forth, but just agree to disagree Appreciate that, you find online. Many people really won't give in to any disagreement at all. Their digital wall and all. If you'd like to see what I've started, my thread is my signature. Later mate ✌
