HELP! Begginer grower in need of some help.

Hey all,

I am new to growing weed plants. Currently i am growing 4 plants and i just wanted to get some advice on some things and to see if they are going ok.

• The plants were planted and different times. I started with plant one and decieded a little later to try 2 more seeds incase some didnt make it. I then also found a seed in some good weed and that is plant number 4

• I have noticed that the bottom teir of leaves on most of the plants are starting to turn yellow and get brown tips. I read somewhere that it could be an iron deficency?

• I try to keep them watered but not over water them. I recently brought a moisture gauge to help me with this.

• I am from australia and i try to keep them in the sunlight all day by moving them into it as the suns moves.

• I have also recently started giving them some fertilizer. I read if i cant get my hands on certain weed sepcific fertilizer to get this one https://www.seasol.com.au/home-garde...or-vegetables/

• I really have no idea how much to give them as the lable so 20 ml to 9liters of water, and i dont think they need 9Litres.

• Does plant 1 (the bigger one) need to be repoted maybe?

• And finally can anyone help me determine the sex of the plants? From the little i know i think they are females but i am not 100% sure!

Sorry if these are stupid questions but i would greatly appreciate any tips aswell.

Definitely not an iron deficiency, that would be at the top of your plants.

Nitrogen deficiency causes yellowing leaves starting at the bottom that can also turn brown and fall off. they usually come off pretty easily, give on of the worse lower leaves a gentle pull and it will probably come right off.
You've also got a bit of clawing there which is sometimes related to nitrogen toxicity but given the pale colour of your plants I'm more inclined to say possibly wind burn but it's really only affecting some of the smaller leaves so maybe root problems. Could be a number of things.

Plant 1 could probably be repotted into a 30cm wide pot from Bunnings but it's tall and thin so you'd have to be gentle. Squeeze that pot all around the sides, get someone to give you a hand to tip it upside down while supporting the plant and lift the pot off then plant in new one.

Plants 1-3 are starting to flower and are female. the white hairs all over the place give it away because our days are getting shorter now, plant 4 being a bit younger will probably start soon as well. You've probably left it a bit late in the season so you're not gonna get a whole lot of bud but you should get something if you can give them a good feed.

Seasol will get you by for a while but it's not ideal. Do you have a hydroponics store anywhere near you?

No questions are stupid questions. OzBud has it right on so just take his suggestions to heart and apply as well as you can. The only question I see that he didn't answer was the one you have regarding the strength of your nutrient solution_ just mix it as suggested by the manufacturer _ 20mm / 9 liters but that doesn't mean you need to give each plant 9 liters. Just use the nutrient solution at that strength and water only as much as they need. The moisture meter may help but if you haven't watered and your leaves are drooping then they probably need water, if they droop after you water them then they are too wet. Lots of good tutorials on this site on watering, nutrients, and signs and remedies for other concerns you might run into. One suggestion I have for you is to find a place where your plants get the most light every day. If its not one where you might have lights turned on at night then its good. The issue you may face by moving them around is inconsistent photo periods which will mess with your plants flowering. Plus it must be a real hassle to keep them moving every day and you need to keep things consistent. If you're in Australia then your natural sunlight photoperiod is probably decreasing as you are heading from summer into fall, correct?. That should work for you if you can keep extraneous light from interrupting their "night" period. Good growing!

Firstly thank you both heaps! Lots of great information for me to take in i am glad i asked my questions here!
Also great to get someone from Australias help as i know the weather etc of differnet parts of the world make a difference when growing out side.

Apologies i think i got my wires crossed (alot of info to take in) about iron and nitrogen in a few articles i have read. One thing i did not mention is that when i do have this guys outside especially later in the day the wind seems to hit them pretty hard. I have been thinking about trying to make some kind of windbreak for them but i have not done it yet.

I have a spare pot ready to go and ill move plant 1 into that. I purchased some Debco organic mix to use as soil which i add some perlite to it to help the drainage.

Thanks for the confirmation on the sex of the plants, i thought they were females because of the white hairs but i just wanted to be sure. Pretty luck i guess to get all females from random seeds lol.

I think there is a hydroponics store near me i might go down and check out what they have. Hopefully i can grab some more marijuana specific soils and fertilizers.

I do more them around quiet alot as where i live there are alot of big trees that as the sun moves create shade, so i move the plants to where the sun is hitting. Towards night time i bring them inside and put them in my bathroom at the window to grab the remaining parts of the day and then to sleep.

Ill also grab my self a bigger watering can and mix up the soloution that way.

I am considering trying an indoor setup next as it has been a bit of a pain moving them about and the weather is a little harsh sometimes. Does a decent setup cost alot? and does cost alot in terms of power usage? Also if i do go down this rout i would probably like to choose my seeds as the ones i got for plants 1-3 where some a friend of mine had sitting around for ages. i still have 8 of those left lol.

I do agree aswell i dont think i will get alot from these guys it was a more an experiment i guess you would say that turned out ok. I am acctually enjoying watching them grow and tending to them, its challenging and rewarding at the same time.

Glad to help if we can, what this sites all about, thats why its such a good place to share our experiences! I think you're on the right track for now with what you have and all. It,s certainly easier to control your growing environment indoors or even in a greenhouse but the most incredible plants I've seen were all grown outdoors in the ground or in huge pots_ like 50-100 gallon planters! So its a tradeoff. You can get started indoors for a relatively affordable setup. A nice way to go is with a grow tent, light(s), medium/hydro/whatever, and a good air exchange fan system with a carbon filter if you need to control smell. I can't grow outside due to climate and don't have a space that works well for a grow tent so I just use a large closet about 4'x8', leave the doors open and have 2-3 fans going to circulate air. One of them is a carbon filtered unit that also helps to reduce the smell but doesn't eliminate it because it vents right back into the room. I spent extra $ on lights instead. Cheers!

yeah they look alright. I usually order online from epping hydronics because I'm too lazy to drive 40 minute or so one way to my closest store lol.
Ask for a 2 or 3 part nutrient brand suitable for soil grows. Can get General Hydroponics flora trio if you like then it can be used indoors as well if you so decide. Setups can be as cheap or expensive as you like. Small fluro grow up to a bigger tent with big LEDs or a 600-1000W HPS

I used a water meter for a while, it caused me to under water my girls slowing down their growth. I now just dig in and feel the soil to depth of about 2". By the meter I was watering at 8-12 days, feeling the soil 3-5, and they look much better now!
