In precision planting in light of all recommendations from the cultivating elite one should push the seed into the hole with a bare toe! Get in step man!
Seriously you might loosen up the soil at the top to make the seedlings entrance into the world a little bit easier. You will be rewarded for your efforts!

I myself prefer planting direct in the soil (current outdoor grow, and yes it is cold here), I have used starters (current indoor grow), I never put the seeds on tissue to germinate (to many chances for my clumsy ass to hurt them). I also dont put them an inch deep, but they should be fine! (these starters are near that deep, the headbanger popped within 24 hours, the white widow and white moscow popped within 48 hours!) these seed are ready to please!
