Flowers in Jars/Going out of town

I just cut my plants down but have to go out of town for the holiday and can't bring the weed with me because it is still illegal in the state I'm travelling to (I know, ridiculous). They should be dry enough for the jars in a day or so, but I am worried about mold since I can't burp the jars while I am away. I'll only be gone for about 5 days...will they be ok for 5 days? Are there any techniques to prevent the mold? Maybe a foil cover with a pinhole?

I would suggest slightly ajar lids on the jars and be placed in the fridge.
    Grow and good luck

I would never put moist buds in the fridge.

furrysparkle I would get them inna jar with a hygrometer and check Rh. If it's below 65%, I think your good to cap em and go have some fun family time, and turkey.... lots of turkey. Burp em before you leave.

The buds, not the turkey......... Also adding a 62% bovida humidity pack would be a good thing.

Here is a discussion on 2way humidity jars. If this is not an option you can always stick a boveda pack inside the jar. It will bring down the RH and you will lose a bit of flavor in this process. It will keep the product from molding while you are gone.
So as we all know burping 20+ jars can be a little tedious and there's always risk of losing a jar or 2 to mold or over drying. I decided to take a look at the

The problem is that in order for the cure to proceed, the buds need fresh air daily for at least the first two weeks after jarring. They don't need Boveda paks, depending on the RH inside the jars right now. They do need to be opened and closed daily.

Toker1 That is very good information to share. I overdried a small amt. of what I just harvested. I'm glad to know it will be fine.

alltatup Yup. And if you didn’t save any wet stems in the fridge, I have heard of others using a fresh leaf from the new grow.
It’s my understanding that there is a live bacteria that consumes the chlorophyll and other less desirable elements during curing. The benificial organisms can not survive a dry environment. So a wet stem, leaf, bud, or what ever live fresh plant material can contain enough living organisms to repopulate the jar.

Toker1 Fascinating!!! Now I've been researching biosynthesis during the cure, the conversion of some elements into other ones, and the final result of higher THC % and mature terpenes. I'll look for that.

Iv had the same problem, I placed the buds in cigar boxes (cardboard) placed a Boveda pack in each and placed a playing card as a gap between the top and the box apon my return I put into jars. No harm came to them at all. Hope this helps😁

So I remembered something that I did once that might help out. This is kinda experimental but I have done something similar.
I alsways save some stem from the grow in the fridge after the cut in case I over dry. I stick the stem in the jar if the RH falls below 55 and it raises the RH quickly. I did a side by side comparison with the overdry vs standard curing stuff, and just being the guinie pig myself, felt the overdry stuff only suffered a slight flavor loss after the whole process. The product was still damn good.
Here is an idea... dry the hell out of it, save the wet stems in a bag in the fridge. At the time of departure, jar it up... and when you get back open it up to allow the air to exchange. If the RH is low, stick the wet stem in the jar for 2-3 hours at a time while slowly raising RH again.
Like I said, I never tried it like that over 5 days in the jar before...but have done it successfully over 2-3 days in the jar.
