I would say to look at the science presented by the person making the claim. If the science makes sense to you perhaps you should try it.. My limited knowledge of plants 'transition time' from day to night tells me this makes no sense at all, but I am not a plant scientist.completed 7 grows
what I have learned so far:
environment maters more than nutrients
at least a dab of nutrients in every watering
effective flushing before harvest is critical to quality

I think king kush tried this. With negative results. Theres really no science or proof behind it. It comes down to basic photobiology. To create energy you need Co2, h20 and photons. Whether you deliver those photons in segments or in one continuous run, does not matter. The same amount of energy will be delivered and created, unless the total duration is changed within a given standard day.
Commercial cultivators mostly use 18/6. Which if there were viable methods of improving plant production through different light methods, it would be a standard practice and well understood.

Yea I tried the GLR (Gas Lantern Routine) and ended up keeping my plants alive, but they didn't grow as fast. Nothing died and everything survived, but sticking to the regular 18/6 and then 12/12 for my photoperiod plants produces faster and bigger growth.
My last grow with 12/1 or 6/2 lighting
The fancy schedule did not provide any advantages, just a few disadvantages (slower, less health).
Take a look at the journal and decide for yourself. I gave up after a few weeks.
