    Trimming brown leaves

I have read that it is advisable to cut dry, brown leaves because the plant will divert nutrients to save the dead/dying leaves. The cotyledon's have reached that stage and I want to cut them off.

Is there any reason to not to cut? I'm only talking about leaves clearly dying not just a little sick.

Brown leaves are dead leaves. The plant is probably responsible for sucking the life from it. I believe your information is incorrect.

Cotyledons will always brown and fall off at some point. If it's more than half yellow/brown, chop it off.

Some growers consider the dropping off of the cotyledons, is the actual start of the veg cycle.
It's a one way street once they turn brown- I agree with Royal Nugs. You want dead leaves removed away from the plant, so debris doesn't attract insects.
It's all bullshit - until you smoke it!

Seedlings can't perform photosynthesis. Once the germination stage is over and the plant can synthesize it's own food the cotyledons have served their purpose, sugar source for the growing seedling. The tissue has transformed to sclarenchyma and is dead.
