Bought the tote new for this grow, changed water once but I noticed it then. Used hydroguard since day one. Do you think I've got trouble brewing?

Is it normal for rot to set in so soon?

It could be crud from the hydroton. Did you rinse it real well before using it?

Is there any sediment in the bottom of the reservoir?

Yes there was / is . I must not have washed them well enough. I hope that's what it is. Makes sense, especially since only a section of each root is discolored

I washed my hydroton, even soaked them in food grade hydrogen peroxide to make sure. It still made sediment in my res and stained roots. Oh well... hope that's all it is.

If you've got white healthy roots growing and reaching the bottom of the tank, I wouldn't worry too much. Just avoid moving or changing the water for a little while if possible, so the bacteria in Hydroguard has a chance to colonize the whole tank. The bacteria actually starts growing on all the surface area inside the tank, as well as around the roots like a protective covering, so you got to give it some time to take over. Once it's got a good colony going, it can out-compete the organism that causes root rot

But since you see the white healthy roots actually reaching down into the reservoir, it's possible the root rot is already losing the fight!

Well here they are aged 10 days from sprouting. Topped and started lst. Two of the plants have a bit of yellow between the leaf veins. Recalibrated the ph meter I was running about a 5 ph when I thought is was 6.
