I think the info is just getting crossed up here.
Your plants are healthy, just could benefit you in your outside grow with a bigger pot for bigger yield. As long as the little amount of soil you have them planted in is Not Miracle Grow, time release soil, or sick plants your are just transplanting to a bigger pot and adding good soil for your cannabis future in a new pot.
Washing the root ball is fine and is do able but if that soil is not some sort of problem there is no need to remove it and add the potential risk of more stress then is needed to your plant.
I would highly recommend roots to be washing if the plant was in MG, time release soil, had root problems and need replanting.
Just want to make sure the information you are getting is clear about why you are transplant and save steps if they don't need to be taken.

DankwingDuck, is correct about removing as much of that MG soil from the root ball as you can. Sorry this is the first I've heard about you been in MG soil.

you should be able to find a hydroponic store near you . They will have a selection of soil I’m sure . Atleast 2-3 brand. Can really tell you exactly what to get unless I know what’s available to you. Happy frog is good. Roots is good . Those are the 2 brands that all the hydro stores near me carry . And some carry more brands .

And little bit of soil left in the roots won’t kill the plant but if you can get it all get it all . Just use common sense and you will be fine .

It runs about 20$ a bag give or take

            I think it’s like 50liters a bag

It’s like 13 gallons of soil per bag give or take

I would transplant to 5 gallon pots , you can just get buckets a Lowe’s or Home Depot for like $3.50 in the paint department.

So as far as tips because that was what you posted for.

Once you you change the soil and put them in bigger pots I would let them recover for about a week the top them if you haven’t already. The one plant looks like it’s been topped but I can’t tell on the other.

How many plants do you have ? Is it 2 or 4? Looks like 2.

Then about a week or so before you bloom I would super crop them and top again and let it recover for about a week .

              Are they outside?

if they are going to be indoor I would put a Scrog net on it the day you flip it to flower.

If if it’s outside I would get like a tomato cage or something like that and tie it to that so you can make a nice canopy and maximize your yield .

You can look up how to do all these training techniques on YouTube. Watch 3-4 videos on each and get and idea of how to do them . Everyone does things a little different but it gets the same results for the most part.

That should get you on track for a nice looking plant with a few Ounces . If you care for it well.

if you understand why you top and super crop then it makes it easier to do it because your not just doing to because someone told you to. So if you look up training techniques and read the tutorial on the site then it will be easier to put them into effect

there was a lot I didn’t wanna do till I understood why I was doing it . And there is a lot of info on this site.

Your topping looks fine . It’s just leaves and stems you can only do so much damage if u mess up . With everything you do just use common sense and you will be fine .
