    Defoliating

Has anyone defoilated an auto? Good or bad results? My Auto is growing but the fan leaves the top are covering the bud sites. Not sure what to do.

Hey Porcha, i can't see, your plants, but if you can't tuck them behind another leaf, cut them off, just don't take very many off at one time.
You need to read Green75 ,or watch his videos, he is the best grower around here, period, no doubt about that, and he is a heavy defoliator, I've heard him say that he hates leaves, he shows you exactly what he does in his videos, like I said, he knows his sh-t. It's not coming from a book either, he learned from experience, check out his grows, they will amaze you, I promise, and you can learn so much by watching his videos, I've watched so many of them, I feel like I owe him money, and will gladly pay him too, for the information.
      GoodLuck Porcha.

A little more info about the plant- indica or sativa?
what week in flowering are you?
          Can you post a pic?
What are you trying to accomplish by defoliation?

In the mean time- here is a link of a recent grow where the auto was defoliated x 1 only:

The plant is a Blue cheese Auto. It's an Indica. It's a month old. The fan leaves are covering the bud sites from getting direct light. I was told it will most likely stretch before it floweres and I'm just not sure.

I would leave it alone for now- auto's have a way of developing "just right" as the stretch completes and you can always pull the branches away from the center to accomplish the same thing.
Revisit it after you see the buds with hairs sticking up in about 2 weeks after the flowering begins!

I prefer to 'tuck' leaves on autos, but if they are in the way of a bud, the leaf has to go.

what I have learned so far:
            environment maters more than nutrients
at least a dab of nutrients in every watering
effective flushing before harvest is critical to quality

Thanks for the help! If anything I'll tuck them for now.

Chop off the fan leaves. There are 4 leaves you should take off and let the branches underneath shoot up.
                Works for me.

Let me show you in pics - I don't like to show and tell on other people's threads - but - pics speak better than words.
Say hello to my 'Purple Stilton' - she looked exactly like yours a week ago, same size and age. So I chopped off those four large fan leaves that are directly above those four bud sites you're looking at. Those bud sites will turn into branches if you let them go. I took these pics minutes ago and a week after I cut those leaves off. Fed with nutes and gave them their second Foliar feeding of 'Foliar Essence'. Click image for larger version

As you can see lots of room to grow.
                    Good luck with your grow.
