    Fox Farms Ocean Forest

I'm using FF Ocean Forest soil for the first time as well as growing clones for the first time. I understand there are nutrients in the soil and I won't need to add any for a month or more. After they developed healthy roots, I planted them in solo cups using this soil, and once they began to thrive, I transplanted them into 1/2 gallon pots, using the same soil. (I'll move them to 3 gallon pots eventually and finally.) But several of my clones (I have ten) are beginning to show what appears to be nute burn.

Is there something I should do? Or should I just wait and, eventually, they will adjust or the nutrient level in the soil with level out?
I like big buds and I can not lie.

Your soil may be a little too "hot" for small plants. I use FF potting soil and I've had that same issue. I add a lot of perlite to the mix. The best advice and can give you. (And it worked for me) is a week before transplanting fill the pots with the soil and water with RO water. Mixing the soil once wet several times a day so it gets fairly dry. Then water again. And repeat prices two or three times inside the week before transplant. That way your not only flushing a bit your soil. But you're also bringing all the mycorrhizae fungus to live so they start eating the nutrients making them available instead of just minerals in the soil. Again. It worked for me. No more nute burn for seedlings. Good luck

      Great advice, thank you!

I ignored the burn ocean forest caused my plant. They grew vigorously.

Just what I was hoping to hear. When I'm ready to transplant into 3gallon pots, I'll follow 9fingerleafs advice. Thanks

Dagmar- by the time the plant needs to transplant from a 1/2 gal to a 3 gallon pot- it should be able to handle it without issue.

Hmmm, just put my new baby into Ocean Forest (with Kind soil at bottom) after starting it in 4 inch peat pot. It's still quite small (only 4 days old), and now I'm wondering how it will react when roots hit the Ocean soil. Time will tell...I'm not planning on replanting. 🌱 Hope SSdude is correct! 😊

I've started a seedling in FFOF for testing purposes (nirvana freebie) and it did just fine. I started it in a plug though.

A popular choice is to mix happy frog and ocean forest. Or, you can use straight happy frog until they get a bit bigger and transplant to ocean forest. Light warrior works as a substitute for happy frog too.

I might include Happy Frog in an Ocean Forest mix when I transplant. Thanks.

I wasn't suggesting a do nothing approach merely stating that if your chosen mitigation step doesn't work your plant will still do fine, most likely. Next time I use Ocean Forest I am going to mix it so it's less harsh.

Agreed. I like the idea of mixing it with Happy Frog.

So far, I've only grown in soil. The plants I'm growing now will last me quite awhile but I'm going to try coco coir next round, too.

I use FFOF and have heard it can be a little hot. I mix FFOF with natural seed starter soil to germinate seeds. I throw a little seed starter in the hole when transplanting seedlings to final grow container. I believe once seedlings get a little age, two to three weeks, the roots can better handle the hotter soil. My leaves show slight nute burn, tiny burn on the very tips of leaves, but plants have been fine even using FF nutrients a few weeks after transplanting. Good luck and happy growing!

In the time since I started this thread, the burn seems to have stopped on all newer growth - and they are growing exceptionally well. So I'm happy with FFOF but will 'dilute' the mixture in the future.

Happy Frog seems like a good choice for starting seeds and clones.
