Six Shooter auto, 3 weeks old today, grown in 5 gal fabric pot with FFOF soil. Soil and water PH is around 6.2, temps in high 70's and RH in high 40's. Had similar issue with last grow and thought it was high PH or cal-mag issue. Brown spots started showing early, first 2 weeks, so I have started adding cal-mag (1 teaspoon per gallon). New growth shows improvement but just noticed some slight motteling and very small brown spot on new growth. Could this be something other than cal-mag deficiencies or should I bump up cal-mag a little more? I am amazed how much autos need cal-mag...

Yea, had seriously high ph run off on last grow with FFOF. Tested and adjusted soil before starting this grow. I started this auto directly in 5 gal pot so I wouldn't have any transplant shock. She isn't big enough yet for me to water to run off so I haven't been able to check that yet. Last grow stayed in high 7's to low 8's so I have tried to err on the lower side of 6 this grow. I contacted Fox Farm after last grow concerning high PH and got no where...

We are not talking about run-off pH, We are talking about EC/PPM.
Things you should track
Inflow pH
Inflow EC/PPM
Run-off EC/PPM
If you aren't watering to run-off I can pretty well guarantee that your plants are getting burned by high EC

I grow in supersoil and never water to run-off, ec might be high, but it tastes as good as any.
Plus supersoil has lots more buffers than coco. I use supersoil and never have bad looking spots on my plants, except for maybe a bug or two.

I think it's big enough to handle a little run off. Plus you're in fabric pots and If you put a fan on the pot it helps dry some soil with high rh. If you can collect some and test it that would give you a better idea of what you're dealing with. 1.2 gallons should get you enough to collect a sample. I use a food injector syringe to collect run off if it's not enough to reach the pen sensors. A turkey baster would work. I can almost guarantee it has a high ec/ppm after 3wks especially if you haven't watered to run off.
Curious to how you tested/adjusted soil prepot? Did you water the piss out of it before planting? Lol if not def high ppm. I used florakleen after the first 2 weeks and ec/ppm is still high. Plus I ran about 50% run off through my pot before planting.https://forum.growweedeasy.com/forum...-she-s-a-beast

For autos i still use ffof but autos are notorious for not liking it. It is "to hot" for alot of autos. (Anyone know why they dont like nutrients like photos?) Try happy frog next go on autos if you dont like your results. Or do like i do for autos. Add 15% more perlite than whats in the ffof. Do not give any nutrients at all for the first month (this is my recommendation others might not agree). Just start when they start needing flowering nutrients. Ive never used a high nitrogen ie veg nutrients in autos with ffof. I might throw in cal mag. Or ff Big Bloom which is low in the big 3. And in my autos in ffof i never worry to much about the lower (first set of leaves) getting a bit brown. However i do transplant from smaller pots so they may be getting hit harder starting in the final pot. But will most likely be fine. Watch all the newer leaves.
(I decided to come back and add this as i dont want another argument with someone as ive had in the past over what i just said. These are just my observations. My opinions on using these particular products which ive used since day one of inside grows. The above is not my same recommendations if growing photos. Ive just started testing ec/and ppm and ffof has very high runoff numbers and they actually recommend crazy numbers in my opinion. When i can give hard data on where they, the plants, like the numbers ill post them.)Last edited by Redwasp; 05-23-2018, 03:14 AM.

That is interesting about Autos. I have heard it before and although I don't have experience with them, I would say that it is probably not that they don't like nutrients, but rather that they struggle to produce sufficient sugars in their roots to pull in high EC water.
I hope I'm not the one who you thought was arguing with you in the past.

Brown "spots" continue to worsen on lower leaves and now see new spots and motteling on newer leaves. Autos do seem to be more finicky than photos. All my photo grows have done well but every time I try autos I run into issues. Tested soil ph before starting this grow with a soil ph test kit from Lowe's. Showed ph in proper range and have been watering with PH around 6.3 but soil probe shows ph around 7. I don't know how to check ppm or ec but it sounds pretty technical for an old fart that just wants to grow a little herb on the side!!1 PhotoDIY grow space 2.5' X 3.5' X 6.5'

I had a similar issue but I believe it was from a foliar feeding with floralicious plus. I do add camg and humic acids but at minimal dosage. My fertigation is feed around 480ppm water water which makes up close to 200ppm weekly thus far ec has been coming down. No real issues but I've never grown autos either.

I may have stumbled across what's causing my problem (possibly)... I had a couple of partial bags of FFOF left over from pass grows so I used the old soil for the last two grows, both show similar issues. Just read that potting soils have about a six month shelf live before breaking down. Any thoughts about this?DIY grow space 2.5' X 3.5' X 6.5'
