Another update on my two MLs. They are full of new leaves since i defoliate them a few weeks ago.
you can see where i super cropped some of the taller stems.
ill show you some close ups in the next post.

Here is an example of how supper cropping the tops can increase flower size and yield. The tip of the stem is on the left and the other flowers you see were below the top and are now going to become stems themselves. Ive done this to all the tops that were tall enough.

I have taken io drilling small holes all around the top of my pots to feed wire and hold down mains & keeping middle open for more sites to develope than I tie them back too.very nice way to produce more. Peace

Thats great, but make sure the wire is thick enough so it does not cut into the stems.
I tried using the metal paper clips but the stems actually pulled them off as the plant grew.
Also after the stems reach the side of the pot and start growing vertical, you can remove the tie downs.

Up date. The MLs are doing very well. I have the two I did by tying them down to the sides of the pot which took 5 weeks before i let them go vertical and one I did without tying the 8 stems down. All have 8 stems but the one i did without tying down is way ahead of the other two and well into flowering. Now this would be the best method if you're in a hurry to have a plant with 8 main colas and a good yield, and this is the way i probably go in the future, but that being said, the other two tied dow girls are going to be HUGE, and a great yield you be the judge. The last photo shows the 3 MLs on the right and another auto on the left. Sorry for the confusion.

Oops, the photos of the 8 stem ML that was not tied down did not make it into the last post, but here she is. Oh ,, she is the same age as the other two. But as you can see she is way ahead of the other two. And it was a lot less work this way. Less yield though.

Very impressive. I can't wait to try mainlining.

Just a refresher her, though I did scan through entire thread. You used the mainline technique on both plants, but on one, you kept her tied down while growing out the main colas, and on the other you let her go free?

I guess it won't be long and you will know the weight difference and that will tell what's best! Although the main test is in the buzz!

In post 60, both were tied down to the edge of the pot after training for 5 weeks,, then let her grow vertical after reaching the edge of the pots. Now in post 61, this plant was also MLed and has 8 colas but was not tied to the edge of the pot. All I did on her was to top her 3 times to produce the 8 colas, and let her grow fro there. I think this is the faster of the two ways to do it but it remakes to be seen if the yield is as much as the other two. (I think not)
And of course the smokeability is the most impotent factor.

Ok folks, here is the ML that i did not tie down like the other two. This one was just topped 3 times to produce the 8 main colas.
i'm now flushing her for the next two days so i can harvest her on Sunday. I have an auto in the drying tent right now and it will have to come out today to make room.
she looks good but this is not the best time to grow an outdoor plant, considering they are only getting 6 hrs of direct sun per day.
I will do another plant like this one in the spring when there will be way more sun time.
meanwhile the other two MLs are doing very well and will be ready before harvest before New Years.

Well the harvest went well and she (the untied dow one) is now dried and in jars. She gave a disappointing 3.5 oz .
But,, but, she is a kickass smoke.

After harvesting two of the ML plants it seems that 3.5 oz is about the most that will come off these plants.
i think a lot of the low yield is due to the time of year i grew them. Buds need a lot of light to get big and heavy, this is the lowest light of the year.
so i think that was the problem. Last year when i got 10 oz off one plant,, i did it in the spring.
I will do another one this spring and post it here. And we will see how much more we can get.
Thanks to all for the encouragement and comments along the way.
                See ya in the spring.

The cold is slowing me down this grow but we do what we can.

You are a master gardener and with Nebula's mainline I think makes a good grow!
