My plants always listen to what ever I am. No real difference in the plants compared to a specific genre. But singing to them is a different story...

Singing to them gives them carbon dioxide on the exhale and helps them grow. Lol

Reading that, it occurs to me that I always talk to my plant as I'm working on it--lots of "Wow" statements. "Wow, you're really getting big!" "Wow, your leaf tips are turning yellow!" etc. I think I need to get out more...

I had some off the wall comment about that, but I probably would get banned from here if I said I just let my plants watch porn all day long.... On an honest note, I did at one time read something where there was some scientific study that did claim plants grew better when exposed to music. Maybe we could all apply for some government grant for a couple billion dollars to research the growing effects of marijuana plants when exposed to music? I'll get a letter off to Trump requesting those funds.....

There is a section on music effects on plants in the book "what a plant knows" which details experiments done on the subject. This falls under a subject called thigmomorphogenesis. Which is the science of vibrational effects on plant morphology.

Basically no, theres been no known effects of music on plants.

Actually, plants do grow better when Buddhist monks chant in the same room with them, and there is scientific evidence demonstrating the power of sound waves:

"What about science? The US National Library of Medicine has a notable abstract titled, “Effect of Mantras on Human Beings and Plants” in which: 'The author during his various experiments on plants found that these from the stage of seedling to the maturity are effected by certain types of sound waves, especially the Mantras. This study reveals that the plants have shown a positive response to this type of particular sound waves regarding the growth. their efficacy in curing the diseases etc.'[2]"

Interesting subject. But even with the mantras, that's a lot of exhaling going on in there!

There is no conclusive evidence on the subject, much of the research on music and plants has been carried out by elementary school students and amateur investigators who do not necessarily adhere to the controls found in laboratories grounded in the scientific method.

Theres a distinctive line between anecdotal evidence and scientific evidence. Theres a good book called "what a plant sees" which goes over this quite well, detailing the research and evidence on the subject. Its a good book and there is not a lot of science jargon, easy to read. What science has showed us is that many of the claims made by people has never been backed up. Actual scientific research has only showed to go against the idea that plants respond to sound waves. One example is the discovery of the gene that is activated upon touch, basically related to what i previously mentioned on thigmomorphogenesis. Using that identified gene they tested to see if it activated with sound waves (music). Which it did not, so concluded that energy in the form of sound waves was not being sensed by plants. Other research shows that plants do not have the necessary genes to posses the ability to hear. So its highly unlikely they can respond to sound waves through traditional forms of hearing or in other forms such as mechanical stimulation from sound waves.

                Thats my take anyway,

Letting them watch porn all day DOES help, but it's hard to find plant porn...

I remember there was a lot of discussion about plants and music in the 70s. I think it was a holdover from hippy cosmicness...

I sometimes (when I remember) play soft classical music when I visit my plant/s in the grow room when checking up on them. Not certain it helps them necessarily grow "faster", but it doesn't hurt to listen to some nice soothing frequencies now and then. That and some positive, encouraging words.
