    Type of water

I'm just wondering if I should be using the pure reverse osmosis water or the stuff with added minerals?

Hey Sir, aint one thing wrong with tap water, if you let it sit out a day or two.
Plus it ain't a waste of water, like ro,water.
Cfls for a week or two
    315lec for everything else
Dug up Ms.topsoil, with perlite added
    36x36x63 inch tent.

It's worth reading up on water and learning about what's coming out of your tap.

Some people get excited about chlorine, but there's so little of it that that's not important (which is why it's safe to drink).

What really matters more is how hard it is--basically how many parts per million of calcium it has and then in turn the pH.

You can learn a lot at your municipal utility's website, but some of the chemistry can be hard to understand if you're not a water scientist.

A PPM meter and a pH meter (and calibration fluid) are both very good investments for cannabis growers.

Basically, if your water is really hard and has lot of minerals in it, it will have a higher pH and will interact with your fertilizer in ways that are not good. (General Hydroponics even sells a special version of their FloraMicro formulated just for hard water).

A simple workaround for people with hard water is to use reverse osmosis water. You don't have to use it 100%.

Anyway, the first step is to find out what the pH of your water is, how many PPM, and to check with your utility's website. Once you know something about your water you can plan next steps.

      I hope that helps.

Morning DangerousDan, I ain't got a clue of what you are talking about with all that book learning scientific stuff. And really don't care about learning about it at my age either.
All I was saying is we have used tap water for over 50years of growing weed, an we never had any problems with tap water, an we will continue to use it, along with Mississippi River water, rain water, or whatever we have to use at the time. I even pissed around real close to a few, an the next time we checked on them the ones that got watered using piss ,looked better than the rest.lol
Thanks though ,for your expertise DangerDan. Even thou I doubt many new growers will know
        what you are talking about.
PS, we got plenty of tds-ec meters , but we don't use them, don't need them. But i do know what ph is, i even use a bluelab, and have been for years.

DrPhoton, no disrespect here either, I read everything you write.
It's just growing pot ain't hard, at all. As a matter of fact it's pretty easy ,and you don't even need all that crap like ec-tds,meters. Keep it simple, kinda like grow weed easy, and not make it hard, when it ain't hard, but all them numbers an book's can make it seem extremely hard to do when it's not. Especially for new growers, but some might like to do things the hard way. We like the easy way at my house.lol
But I sure like reading your articles, I promise, especially when I'm high as hell.

I just use water from a filter pitcher (easier to PH, sometimes after adding nutes I don't even need to).
****tent (2x4) and large light (Relassy 300W LED) is in storage for now until I can solve some household electrical issues****

CoM Stonington Blend soil, distilled water; Liquid Squid amendment if needed, molasses for flowering

Howdy SirSmksAlot, I use the local tap water and it is very hard even though it is a blend of well water and water from surface reservoirs. It has enough calcium that I do not need to use any CALiMAGic in my feeding schedule.

Our water is super soft--so much so that the local water utility actually adds a little calcium to help protect pipes, but it's still only about 20 PPM, so I have go through lots of CALiMAGic of face immediate Ca or Mg deficiency symptoms.

Tap water up here in Canada - Vancouver area - is so good we sell it to Washington state. Neighboring city Chilliwack wins best water in Canada almost every year.

Hey Canuck, my Mom is from Britannia Beach, on the way to Whistler. You live in one of the most beautiful parts of our planet. I don't have any family left there but would move tomorrow if I could afford the cost of living!! I imagine it only got worse after the Olympics!!!

I'm on an Artesian well and still add calmag when I feed. With regular water that ph is at 7.0 I don't use ph down. I do ph my water with nutes at 6.0. My water is unchlorinated and has lots of trace minerals around 250ppm. If anyone wants to know what an Artesian well..Artesian or spring waters come from a natural source but are bottled off-site and are processed and purified. Mineral water could be natural spring water or artesian water, comes from an underground source, and contains at least 250 parts per million (ppm) of dissolved solids, including minerals and trace elements. An artesian aquifer is a confined aquifer containing groundwater under positive pressure. This causes the water level in a well to rise to a point where hydrostatic equilibrium has been reached. A well drilled into such an aquifer is called an artesian well.

I was thinking I couldn’t use my well water because it has Huge amounts of iron. Ph is 7.6 out of the tap. Ppm is only about 150 though. I used distilled water my first grow, lots of ph up on nute days. I found it to be frustrating to ph as well as a little bit in non nute days went a long way of the ph down and was very easy to over shoot it. This grow I said screw it and used my well water, plants are perfectly happy. I’m guessing yours with the tap water will be fine. I use calmag on my nute waterings in soil nit Sure if I really need to they seem to not mind it though. And it’s so much easier not hauling distilled water, and you get odd looks buying 40 bucks worth of distilled water st the store. My limited understanding is hydroponic based mediums like hydro or coco can be more sensitive to hard water.

I use 60% rain water to 40% tap water. I add 17 drops of acid to get the PH to 6.5 for 10L. Growing in soil that I make up. No cal mag required. Costs me 18 dollars a year for additional supplements.
