UrbZ Second Grow Journal - 3 Strain Grow

    Journal Entry

    Strains:

    White Thunder x2
    Sour Ripper
    Blue Dream

    Environment:

    4x4 Tent
    (2) 6 inch clip fans
    (2) 8 inch oscillating fans
    (1) 6 inch intake
    (1) 6 inch exhaust
    Humidity Controller
    Temperature Controller
    Heater (for seedlings)
    Heating Pad (for seedlings)
    Humidifier (for seedlings)
    Dehumidifier (for flower)

Will be germinated by soaking (in maxi-crop solution) and the paper towel method (soaked with the maxi-crop and dusted with OregonismXL) on the heating pad.

Will start in 16 oz solo cups then will be transferred to their final home in 3 gallon fabric pots. If needed will transplant to 5s for flower. Will use OregonismXL at every transplant.

Soil will be the local blend I have previously used. Mixed with 40% perlite. I have already leached the soil of all initial nutrients.

Nutes for the Sour Ripper, Blue Dream and (1) White Thunder will be the full Advanced Nutrients Line.

    (1) White Thunder will be feed with strictly Mega Crop as a controlled grow between the 2 plants. Testing Mega Crop to see if I like the results over AN. If I have to add cal/mag I will just use ANs. Mega Crop does not produce one.

I will be foliar feeding with SNS supplements every 5 days during veg and every 5 days during weeks 1-3 of flower. Using their foliar instructions.

As for food levels and feeding intervals. I am going to feed 100% manufacturers recommended doses every third water. For all 3 AN, Mega Crop and SNS.

Plants are going to be vegged for 1.5 months and then put into flower.

Training Method will be a variation of the X-ifold I did on the last grow. I will just be switching up what growth shoots I take during training.

    Light cycle will be 18/6.

    Lights:

Seedlings will be started under (1) JC Brit 100 watt full spectrum led.
Early veg will be under (2) JC Brit's.
Late veg and flower will be under (2) King full spectrum 1000's. With possibly (1 or 2) JC Brit added in for support lighting (Temperature factor decides).

    Strain Info:

    Sour Ripper)

    Phenotype: 60% Sativa / 40% Índica
    Indoor flowering: 65/70 days
    Yield: Medium / High

    Blue Dream)

    Phenotype: 60% Sativa/ 40% Indica
    Indoor flowering: 65/70 days
    Yield: High

    White Thunder)

    Phenotype: 40% Sativa / 60% Indica

I am really curious about this 45 day white thunder strain, i just don’t think I believe the 45 day high yield. Please prove me wrong.

That's something thats been in the back of my mind as well. It was a tough decision to go with the 3s. The 7s last grow were far too large. The main thing that made me go with the 3s is I was told a fabric 3 can grow the same size plant as a plastic 5. But I also think I will buy a set of fabric 5s... Just in case.

Couple things I forgot Im going to use during this grow. I will be updating the initial topic.

But these are all freebies I got from just from checking manufacturers sites so far. There are probably more, I've been doing a bit more research. But for freebies this is what I've recieved.

Mega Crop 230 gram pouch. Enough to do one plant from beginning to harvest. 3.00$ s&h

Roots organics: Buddah Grow and Buddah Bloom 235 ml bottles. I wont be using these this grow. Also from Roots Organic I got Oregonism XL 55 gram pouch. I will be using this. 11.00 $ s&h.

From SNS I got a free 3 part Micro, Grow and Bloom 4 oz of each liquid fertilizer. I will not be using these this grow. Also from SNS I got 2 natural growth supplements one for Roots & Veg. The other for Buds & Flower. 2 4 oz. packages enough for the entire grow. I will be using these following their foliar application instructions this grow. 8.00$ s&h.

Im going to use 1/3 coco in one pot but still wont change what im doing. This is more about the soil for me so I need to keep it consistent. 1/3 coco shouldn't affect it much. Ive got 3 blends and one straight soil from a Maine manufacture I want to try. More details to come when I start it in May.

I just hate paying $15 bucks a 10 gallon pot for soil. I wont even look at kind soil, although I know alot love it. But my total expenses including electricity are in the $10 to $15 dollar a month per plant range right now and Im trying to make it even lower.

I agree you should be alright with that mix. I dont see 1/3 coco throwing it off that bad.

Its funny there a few new super soils you can buy on ebay that are cheaper but same as kind. One is called "Not For Cannabis". and a couple others. But I agree I cant see paying for kind with shipping it makes it way too expensive.

Since I have the microscope I will be using it throughout the grow for different reasons. Today I used it to select seeds for the grow. I figured if I got several good close-ups of each seed I use when one doesnt germinate I may be able to look at the close-ups and see what maybe made that seed pop or not pop compared to the others. I took several shots for my comparisions but will only share one close-up and 1 normal zoom of each.

I can tell right away the freebies are far inferior quality than ones I paid for.

Seed labels are in picture captions.

The Sour Ripper seeds are by far the best I've looked at. Fat and well defined patterns. They are by Ripper Seeds.

The white thunder are pretty small not too defined. They are by Kera Seeds.

The Blue Dream seeds are pretty shotty IMO. They were free. I would actually have to purchase Fem BD seeds from BlimBurn to see if the freebies are worse quality than ones paid for. Not really high on my list of strains though so I doubt I will do this.

Now just to pop them. No matter what looks are a seed that pops is a seed that pops.

I'm probably gonna pop a couple of other strains I have for an outdoor grow. Some of them are similar breeders some are different. I figure not only being able to maybe tell good from bad seeds but maybe I can eliminate breeders by low germ rate and seed looks combined.

The blue dream is same as sour ripper both are 60/40. You think the BD seeds are small cause they are freebies? They are much smaller than the rippers.

Prepped my solo's for planting later on. I flushed them out with r/o pH'd at 6.3. Starting ppms of the flush water was 47. Final readings on runoffs were all between 6.4 and 6.5. All ppms came out at 60-70 ppms.

      Ready to plant.

Unfortunately those are the seeds that didnt make it. The gg, the black and the holy grail were all bag seeds. They all failed to fully germ.

I do have seeds to replace the 2 white thunders and blue dream. The sour ripper is still growing...

I dont get why 1 would germ and none of the other 11.

Not only that the ripper had terrible helmet head. She didnt seem to want to shed it herself. I finally had to get tweezers to pull it off. Well I pulled a bit too hard and pulled her all the way out of the soil. I made a new hole and replanted her. She is still growing strong while every other seed is a no show.

Next batch of seeds are finally soaking in the new solution. I went with the method I germinated the Torpedo seeds, they raced like bats out of hell. I dont think it was heat, that killed em. I think it was the clonex.

Seeds soaking in Maxi-crop seaweed extract at 32 ML per gallon pH'd at 6.4. Here we go again.

They are already looking great. The sour rippers havent even sunk but have root exposing itself. Going into paper towels now.

But yes in the future going to do a much easier method.

All the seeds were planted into soil early this a.m. (Hoping it all goes good. I was 3/4 deep in a pint of patron. lol)

Each solo cup was moistened with the Maxicrop solution at 6.4 pH. Mat placed underneath the cups to keep soil warm.

Heres hoping to a little better results.

              Jounal Update

So within 14 hours of placing seeds the soil I had several sprouts. Im now I'm just waiting for 1 Blue Dream and 2 white Thunders to pop. Both Sour Rippers have popped, 1 White Thunder and 2 Blue Dreams. I figure the ones that haven't popped are easily the seeds with a smaller taproot. Should be up tomorrow. The extra seeds are getting grown outdoors. I also germed 3 Grape God Seeds for outdoors, all 3 are sprouts. This method works excellent.

First grow used this method with 100% germination Rate. Switched this grow to different method got 15% germ rate. Started over with previously used method and it's looking like its going to be 100% again or close.
