    High Times In Ancient China

An interesting article for a chilled Sunday............
A 2,700-year-old stash of whole marijuana plants was uncovered in an ancient tomb in northwest China. If marijuana aged like wine, the rare “artifact”...

Yeah, great story. Next time your outside and really buzzed, think about what it must have been like to be getting high 2,700 years ago!
A Chinese archaeologist and his colleagues unearthed the remains of a man, buried approximately 2,400 to 2,800 years ago, whose family had carefully

Makes you wonder what the THC levels were

That's for sure....now...how many of you think those plants were true landrace strains....or did they already start producing hybrids way back then? Will we ever know? lets get some samples and have some DNA testing done_ make some comparisons to what's out there today! Who's gonna be the first to develop and market a DNA test kit for cannabis?

I'll bet there was selective breeding going on, if only by just choosing the best plants each season. That was supposed to have started 10,000 years ago, so by 2,700 years ago, they might have had some pretty gnarly shamanic strains.

DoctorJ_ that's kinda what I was thinking...I mean why not ?_ look how many strains there are today_ I've heard estimates of 6000 which seems crazy but one things for sure_ every time you look at a breeders catalog there are new strains. And there are more breeders every year. If humans started growing cannabis 10,000 years ago then I'm sure they had different strains going! Another thing I find interesting is how there are places on our planet where plants that have relatively isolated landrace strains may have developed independently from others. Like Central and South America and the Middle East. It would seem that they likely wouldn't have been the result of trade over 2000 years ago...Possible though if they came across the bearing land bridge during the last ice age. But how long could seeds remain viable?

My Nephew was a contestant on Surviour China but was voted off mid way through so he had some time on his hands in China. He found some marijuana growing wild in a deep valley and was able to sneak some seeds back to US. I was able to try some the last time I went to CA. Decent weed but not 100% sure about Nephew's story!!

That is interesting. A friend did a film in Mongolia about 15 years ago and he said he found some cannabis growing along a small stream. He was too paranoid (or maybe smart) not to try and bring any back. They often had "escorts" watching almost every move they made. The plants weren't in flower either so no seeds. Must have been a hardy strain but considering its likely heritage might have been more CBD than THC. Too bad we'll never know...interesting :~)
